Ten years ago today Dems were courting Religion - Bill Wilson -www.dailyjot.com
In July 2007, there was an article in Time Magazine called "Leveling the Praying Field." The article described how the Democratic presidential candidates were all talking about faith and religion in an effort to gain back faith-based voters lost to the conservative right. The article was laced with quotes from Hillary Clinton and others about being who you are and if faith is part of that, so be it. But the problem with the Democratic Party's version of faith is that it is twisted and deceptive. Their version of faith is just that-faith. It doesn't seem to matter whether you worship Christ, or God or gods or buddha or allah. According to the story, faith is faith and all people of faith share the same values.
At the time, professing Christian President George W. Bush erroneously and sinfully said that we all worship the same god and that there are different paths to God. There is nothing more farther from the truth. God is God. He is the great I AM. And He sent His only son to die on the cross for our sins. Jesus Christ says in John 3:16, "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life." That son, Jesus Christ, said in John 14:6, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me."
Those who accept Jesus Christ as their savior receive salvation. But politicians who support abortion, homosexuality, taking God out of the public square, evolution, promiscuity is normal and accepted, and the list goes on and on, are contradictory to everything of God because these things are sinful or promote sinful actions. And if their words are contradictory to the purpose of God, then so their hearts may also be the same. People of faith should hold in suspicion those politicians who support these sinful, anti-Godly principles, but all of a sudden get religion at election time.
A real time example of how the Democrats suddenly "got" religion was the support they showed for the first Muslim Congressman, Keith Ellison of Minnesota, who has since become deputy chairman of the Democratic National Committee. Or how about what happened in the then Democrat-controlled U.S. Senate for the first time in American history-a Hindu priest opened up the Senate in prayer. He said, "We meditate on the transcendental glory of the deity supreme who is inside the heart of the earth, inside the life of the sky and inside the soul of the heaven." The Senators present were silent as protestors shouted down the Hindu priest by quoting scripture. Ten years ago, I wrote, "These are deceptive people in deceptive times." And the people and the times have become even more deceptive in the past decade.
