Are You Not Entertained?

Are You Not Entertained? - By Grant Phillips - http://www.raptureready.com/2017/03/18/are-you-not-entertained/

Russell Crowe, as General Maximus Decimus Meridius, in the 2000 movie, "Gladiator," said those words while in the arena fighting as a gladiator.  The Roman citizens loved to be entertained. The Greeks were heavy into entertainment. Most civilizations are, but could any previous generation top ours of today? I wonder.

It is only my opinion, but even though our entertainment may not be as gory, in the 'public' arena, I doubt that any previous generation could out-do us in the entertainment field. Music, art, sports, movies, television episodes, etc. are all about entertainment. Perhaps I should say that entertainment is all about keeping the masses entertained via music, art, sports, movies, television episodes, etc.

Even the darker side of the human soul is thrilled by events such as illegal dog fights, cock fights, and other activities I haven't the stomach to even mention.

If you'll think about it, most entertainment, if not all, actually has no intrinsic value for the welfare of our souls. Certainly, there is nothing wrong with entertainment per se, but shouldn't we ask, "How is it affecting my soul toward God?"

Some Christians may argue that Christian music blesses their soul. That's wonderful. David used it to calm the deviant soul of Saul with music on the harp  (1 Samuel 16:23), but it was never permanent. Maybe we need to look for what is permanent; that thing that will carry us through the thick and thin of life.

As I have already noted, there are many forms of entertainment, and music, for example, is just one of them. I enjoy music as much as anyone else. I have been intimately acquainted with music from my earliest memories. I allow my emotions to enjoy the right kind of music, but I do not allow the music to control my emotions, if that makes sense.

Music is a powerful drug to the soul. It can elicit strong emotions; emotions such as peace, happiness, heartache, and even rage, which can produce calm, smiles, tears, and even murder.

We also entertain ourselves with puzzles, crosswords, and electronic games (the rage of today's youth especially). Yes, entertainment comes in all forms, and human beings love to be entertained.

This year's Super Bowl game is now behind us and all the talk is about the come-back of one team over the other to seal the win. The stands were full and the television sets throughout our land were tuned in to another spectacular show of entertainment. Some watch this event for the game itself, others for the commercials, and still others for the half-time show. (By the way, we didn't watch it, so I'm using second-hand information.) It is now three days from that "glorious" event, and my question is, "Does the emotional high from this event still exist?" (By the way, again, the half-time shows have gotten too filthy too watch.)

Before I'm attacked for "hating sports," I'll inform you that I too watch sports, but sports aren't the most important thing in my life, and neither is music. My wife and I enjoy good movies, but we can work the "off" button just as easily as the "on" button.

Have you ever considered that so much of our lives are involved with being entertained? Again, that isn't necessarily wrong. Who could not enjoy watching small children in a play or listening to them sing or play an instrument. What joy we have in watching children in their sports' activities.

What about television? We have to look much harder than we did fifty years ago, but eventually you can find something worthwhile on the living room god (and every other room in the house now days). One question; can you turn it off? I've been in homes where every television set in the house played constantly, only to be turned off at bedtime.

Reading a good book is another entertainment that I haven't even mentioned. Notice, I said "good" book. Reading is not as widely practiced today since we can have our thrill pill electronically administered, but it is something that is relaxing. There are so many experiences one can enjoy by reading a good book. Unfortunately, there is plenty of trash on the shelves also, and far too many gravitate in that direction.

Are we not entertained? Oh yes, we most certainly are. Many of our citizenry crave the emotional high so much; they wander off into dangerous territories to entertain their mind with illicit drugs. This form of entertainment is destroying lives, and not just the lives of those who are under its spell, but also the lives of their families.

Whatever it is in your life you enjoy as entertainment, enjoy it, but don't allow it to overcome you. Rule of thumb: if you can enjoy the entertainment with Jesus standing beside you, then do so, because He is, if you are a Christian. Set your mind upon Christ.

"Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth." (Colossians 3:2)

Good, clean entertainment will not harm us and can even brighten our day, but it is not something that lasts. It is not something that will carry us through life. If we depend on entertainment for happiness, we will never find it. We will always be reaching for one more "pill" to bring us the emotional high we crave. Bad entertainment will quickly destroy our soul and pull us further and further away from true happiness.

Earthly entertainment is like sugar; first a quick burst and then a quick let-down. Where can true happiness be found? What can really satisfy my soul and not fade away? Read Matthew 5:3-12 and replace the word "blessed" with the word "happy." The Greek word "makarios" means, "blessed" or "happy." In these few verses are words of lasting value that bring true happiness that lasts forever.

When the Fire First Fell

When the Fire First Fell - By Bill Perkins - http://www.raptureready.com/2017/03/21/when-the-fire-first-fell/

Evidences of a changed earth in 33 A.D.:

Just after Jesus' death on Calvary's cross, the most spiritually impacting of all dispensational changes occurred...

God's primary focus transitioned from Israel to the Body of Christ-Christians throughout the world. Eventually this remarkable period, called the "Church Age," will end and God will again go back to making Israel as His primary focus. But currently, the Church Age, in which we live, began with quite unique and powerful characteristics.

Here are three evidences of this historical and monumental change that happened in 33
A.D.:

1) Gaining Direct Access to God

The 4" thick, 60' high and 30' wide curtain that ripped in the Jewish Temple from top to bottom, exposing the private Holy of Holies area, was the visual indicator that the blood of Jesus had been accepted as payment for sin. There was now no more barrier to accessing the God of the universe.

It's amazing to think that for some 4,000 years, Adam, Moses, Noah and every other believer saved by faith through the ages was barred from heaven due to the stain of sin.

Granted, where they waited, after death, was called "Paradise," but it wasn't heaven. (Paradise and Hades is explained in Luke 16:19-31 and is not a parable.)

Finally, when Jesus died, this huge group of Believers made a mass transfer from Paradise, in the center of the earth, to the real heaven above. As the multitudes broke though the earth's crust on their exciting journey, some even lingered a bit on the earth's surface, to the bewilderment of those still alive on the earth.

"And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice, and yielded up His spirit. And behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom; and the earth shook and the rocks were split. The tombs were opened, and many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised; and coming out of the tombs after His resurrection they entered the holy city and appeared to many." ( Matthew 27:50-53)

Wow! That sheds a whole new light on the saying, "dead men walking." Imagine a possible interaction that day:

Ben sees Joe, a friend who had died several years before, standing in the street and exclaims, "Good grief Joe, what are you doing here? I thought you died years ago?"

Joe responds, "I did die, but I couldn't go to heaven until my sins were paid. But now, Jesus, the perfect sacrifice, has made payment for all my sin and I'm headed for heaven now....and look at the time, gotta go, bye." (You have to love God's humor.)

So things had changed. God did not change, but He was changing the way He dealt with mortal man. Before the cross, no one could go to heaven due to their sin. Now of course, when a believer dies, their spirit goes directly to heaven...made possible because of the shed blood of Jesus.

"...we are of good courage, I say, and prefer rather to be absent from the body and to be at home with the Lord." (2 Corinthians 5:8)

2) The Holy Spirit Arrives

Just before Jesus departed this earth, He told the disciples to wait for the Holy Spirit to come and permanently indwell believers. 50 days after His death, on the Jewish Feast Day of Pentecost, the disciples were gathered in Jerusalem, probably near an entrance into, or possibly on, the Temple Mount.

People have often assumed the "upper room" in the Acts 1 account of choosing a new disciple to replace Judas was the same room in the Acts 2 account of the arrival of God's Holy Spirit. But a careful reading of the text makes no such definitive assertion.

Acts 2 was definitely a later time than the Acts 1 account when they were meeting in the "upper room" with the 120 people, because the Scripture says:

"When the day of Pentecost had come . .." (Acts 2:1a)

The last part of this verse continues:

"... in one place." (Acts 2:1c)

Although it is usually assumed and taught that this place is the upper room of Acts 1, the text doesn't say that. It only says "in one place." Scripture suggests a lower room on the ground floor that could be observed by people outside in the street seeing the faces of those inside well enough to identify that they were Galileans inside.

The middle part of Acts 2:1 says:

"...they were all together..." (Acts 2:1b)

Who is "all"? Referring back to the previous verse, the last verse of Acts 1, Scripture states:

"... and the lot fell to Matthias, and he was added to the eleven apostles." (Acts 1:26)

And in verse 2:14 Peter refers only to the 12 apostles who were present.

"But Peter, taking his stand with the eleven..." (Acts 2:14)

So it was in this ground floor room where the God of the universe first permanently indwelled humans... beginning with the 12 Apostles. He did not indwell hundreds of people on His initial arrival, only the twelve Apostles.

"And suddenly there came from heaven a noise like a violent rushing wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. And there appeared to them tongues as of fire distributing themselves, and they rested on each one of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit was giving them utterance." (Acts 2:2-4)

This was a loud event...all of Jerusalem could hear the "sound" of God's Spirit's arrival. Then, those nearby the disciples' gathering place saw and heard "signs" that this was something new from the Lord.

The three recorded signs of the Spirit's coming-wind, fire, and inspired speech-are considered in Jewish tradition as a sign of God's presence. Wind (pneuma) is associated with God's Spirit (Ezek 37:9-14). Fire from heaven is always an attention grabber (Sodom and Gomorrah, Elijah calling fire down from heaven, etc.). And speech alterations once began a whole new dispensation at Babel.

So a first-century Jew knew full-well this was something very powerful from heaven above. God was making the statement that things had changed. God did not change but He was changing the way He dealt with mortal man.

"Now there were Jews living in Jerusalem, devout men from every nation under heaven. And when this sound occurred, the crowd came together, and were bewildered because each one of them was hearing them speak in his own language." (Acts 2:5-6).

To further establish this "things have changed" moment, God had the disciples each speaking in a different language. Only the disciples were doing this, not others observing the Apostles strange behavior.

"They were amazed and astonished, saying, 'Why, are not all these who are speaking Galileans? And how is it that we each hear them in our own language to which we were born?'" (Acts 2:7-8)

Due to so many people in town for the Feast of Pentecost, there were visitors from all over the Mediterranean. And these visitors were dumbfounded that these men from Galilee were speaking in their native tongues. The Romans, Greeks, Arabs, etc., all heard an uneducated Galilean Apostle of Jesus speaking in their native tongue.

"Parthians and Medes and Elamites, and residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the districts of Libya around Cyrene, and visitors from Rome, both Jews and proselytes, Cretans and Arabs - we hear them in our own tongues speaking of the mighty deeds of God." (Acts 2:9-12)

The diverse and culturally mixed Jewish crowd was mesmerized by what was happening, and quite curious.

"And they all continued in amazement and great perplexity, saying to one another, "What does this mean?" (Acts 2:12)

It meant things had changed. God had not changed but He wanted people to know He was changing the way He dealt with mortal man. And it's worth noting that all these men took this story back to their hometowns around the Mediterranean Sea. Which was as close as you could come to news going viral, today.

3) The Indwelling Spirit

The third evidence that God was changing how He dealt with humans was evidenced by visible observations. The apostles began speaking in foreign languages. Those observing first thought they were drunk. But Peter explained things more thoroughly.
"But Peter, taking his stand with the eleven, raised his voice and declared to them: "Men of Judea and all you who live in Jerusalem, let this be known to you and give heed to my words. For these men are not drunk, as you suppose, for it is only the third hour of the day." (Acts 2:14-15)

Peter corrected their assertions of drunkenness and presented them with the gospel, the good news about who Jesus was, what He did, how He was killed and that He rose from the dead. It was at this time that individuals responded to the conviction of the gospel truth and received the gift of the Holy Spirit.

"Now when they heard this, they were pierced to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, "Brethren, what shall we do?" Peter said to them, "Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit." (Acts 2:37-38)

Peter shared the simple gospel message that God had sent His Messiah to redeem sinners. If you "believed," your sins would be forgiven and you would permanently receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

This permanently indwelling Spirit from God, the third part of the Triune God now able to live in humans, births a new creature on arrival.

"Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come."  (2 Corinthians 5:17)

When the Holy Spirit comes into our lives, He illuminates scripture, heightens spiritual sensitivity and gives us access to an unequalled power source from above. Lives are changed.

"So then, those who had received his word were baptized; and that day there were added about three thousand souls." (Acts 2:41)

The 3,000 people who were saved that day had responded to Peter's invitation to trust what Jesus had provided via the cross. There is no evidence that these new Believers spoke in other languages, known or unknown. Only the 12 Apostles were exhibiting signs.

"Everyone kept feeling a sense of awe; and many wonders and signs were taking place through the apostles." (Acts 2:43)

Therefore the Church Age Began:

With Jesus' 12 Apostles loudly receiving the Holy Spirit in Jerusalem.

The event drew a street crowd giving Peter the opportunity to share the Good News of Jesus' birth, death and resurrection.

Many responded to the Good News and were saved, the same way people get saved today, by believing the gospel. God's Spirit entered each new believer, permanently, when they believed.

Warning God's People - You're Distracted and You're Prophetic Guard is Down!

Warning God's People - You're Distracted and You're Prophetic Guard is Down! - David Pepe - http://www.theignorantfishermen.com/2017/03/warning-gods-people-your-distracted-and.html

Since president Obama has left office and the manifestation of his secular agenda has "seemed" to have diminished, many evangelical Christians have felt at ease about the rise and threat of national and social secularism. and have been encouraging themselves and focusing on president Trump's presidential post Obama agenda and the restoring of America. Now don't get me wrong, we should do all we can to help promote our founding father's view for America in every way, for we live in time and this is our earthly realm (Psalm 34:14, Heb. 12:14); but NEVER at the expense of putting the Gospel of Jesus Christ or the proclamation of the abundance of current prophetic events, which are EXPONENTIALLY teeming with the manifestation of the very soon coming of the Lord on the back burner.

To my surprise since January 20th, I and others have personally found that prophetic interest among evangelicals has dramatically dropped and has slowed way down since president Trump has taken office. This complacency is not good for God's people and is a demonic straw man and deception to distract and lull God's people into a state of false security and idleness, while the enemy moves his demonic agenda forward (Rev. 13). While God's people seemingly are currently distracted by the temporal and earthly of this vain life, they are neglecting Almighty God's present will for their lives and the ETERNAL Kingdom watchmen duties which we are to seek first (Matt. 6:10, 33). Now dear friends, hear me out if you please. We are not to be running round as "Chicken Littles" causing inaccurate unbiblical fears and falsely spiritualizing current events creating confusion, for that is what Almighty God has called us NOT to do (1 Cor. 14:33, 40). On the other hand, we are to be with ALL biblical discernment and wisdom to be firstly watching, waiting, serving, glorifying and proclaiming God's ETERNAL glory and goodness. No matter how things may seem to be moving in Washington in light of our present hour this does not replace the REALITY that Almighty God's Day of global wrath is indeed very nigh as global events clearly tell us (Rev. 6-19) and His return and Kingdom are even at the door!

As Almighty God's watchmen we have found - with in the last two months - that sound biblical prophetic interest has now been replaced by temporal earthly agendas such as the false anticipation of the restoration of America, pro-Americanism, over turning Obama-care, undoing Obama's secular policies, closing our borders, removing illegals, fighting global Islamic terrorism, creating American jobs, religiously following conservative talk radio, holding Republicans and Democrat's feet to the fire, watching Fox News 24/7, fighting for America's personal survival, supporting the pro- Trump agenda, fighting for pro-life social causes, protecting American sovereignty and interest etc...etc. Now hear me my dear friends, I am totally for all of these things and have been greatly encourage by Almighty God's grace and mercy to this nation. Also, I have even been a little encouraged by president Trump, his agenda, the fight against American communism, progressivism, secularism and globalism. However, I am NOT trusting at all in any of man's sincere attempts to restore America in light of our EXPONENTIAL LAWLESS day. I am personally seeking ONLY Almighty God's will in such an hour for His ETERNAL glory firstly and greatly rejoicing in Almighty God's grace and mercy for this nation; which (our nation) even now is at the precipice of the global ash heap and heading straight into the Day of the Lord (Rev. 6-19).

It would seem to me and some others that Americanism is now taking first place among evangelicals; who just a few months ago were very eager to hear and who were daily keeping an eye on our world's prophetic events leading to the Lord's trumpet blast and the Day of the Lord (1 Thess. 4:13-18, Rev. 6-19). My dear friends hear this one watchmen of the Lord if you please. We were NEVER so close to losing this nation and its global retraining power as we were in November and since then - by Almighty God's grace - He has spare our nation for a brief moment for His people to seek Him with ALL our hearts, to get out His ETERNAL Word of redemption and to blow the shofar of warning that the Day of the Lord is at hand! How can we ever think and deceive ourselves that we can save this nation when it is moments from its end! We here at the IFB have been zealously praying for president Trump for Almighty God's saving grace, wisdom and guidance in such days; but he or any of our founding fathers - if they were here today - can NEVER nor could EVER save this sinking Titanic of a nation, for we are EXPONENTIALLY past the point of no return; for globally the Day of the Lord is at hand! I pray to Almighty God that you have the spiritual eyes to see that, for if you do not you will be totally opened and in a place to be deceived by the god of this world (2 Cor. 4:2-4, Eph. 2:1-2).

How can any society survive when moral absolutes are hated, scoffed at and demonized by millions of Americans and both political parties? The answer is, "It will not! nor will it EVER!" Thus, we now see the final sad state and coming downfall of our once great and highly respected nation as the Day of the Lord is rapidly approaching (Psalm 11:3, Prov. 14:3).

Tragically, it will be this complete abandonment of moral absolutes that will be America's final demise and my dear friend we are already there! This nation - due to her abandonment of moral absolutes and the soon coming Rapture of the body of Christ - will finally implode on herself, thus opening the door to the entrance of the Four Horsemen and the dreaded Day of the Lord (Rev. 6-19). My dear friends, it is absolutely crucial for all of Almighty God's people to keep Almighty God first and His ETERNAL purpose first in such days. My friend, if you are one who knows NOT the Savior please be sure that you personally DO (John 1:12, 3:16-17, 1 John 5:10-13). This world is headed into the final showdown between demonic and human lawlessness verse the ETERNAL RIGHTEOUSNESS of Almighty God; between Lucifer the fallen angelic creature verses the ETERNAL GOD and CREATOR of ALL (Rev. 16:13-16)! Be sure that you are on your Creator's side, who loved you and died for your transgressions and to be your propitiation and Savior (John 1:12, 3:16-17, Rom. 10:4, 1 John 4:10).

My dear friends, the Kingdom of Heaven is TRULY at hand!

The 'Big One' will be deadlier than thought: A massive earthquake could plunge large parts of California into the sea INSTANTLY

  • Scientists believe the 'Big One' is now overdue to hit California

The Big One may be overdue to hit California, but scientists near LA have found a new risk for the area during a major earthquake.
They claim that if a major tremor hits the area, it could plunge large parts of California into the sea almost instantly.
The discovery was made after studying the Newport-Inglewood fault, which has long been believed to be one of Southern California’s danger zones.
The fault runs under densely populated areas, from the Westside of Los Angeles to the Orange County coast.

WHAT IT MEANS

An event along the same lines of the historic earthquakes, which were most commonly around a magnitude 7.5, could cause the land to shift by an average of 9 feet.
The official USGS forecast for California earthquakes now predicts a 16 percent chance of an M7.5 quake or larger on this section of the fault within the next 30 years.
And, a rare but more powerful quake like the 1857 event could shake the ground for up to three minutes, displacing the land by 20 feet.
This could have devastating effects, with potential to damage the aqueducts that bring water into Southern California, disrupt electric transmission lines, and tear up Interstate 5, according to the LA Times.
Major earthquakes on the fault centuries ago caused a parts of Seal Beach near the Orange County coast to sink 3ft in just seconds.
In total three quakes over the last 2,000 years on nearby faults made ground just outside Los Angeles city limits sink as much as 3ft.
Today that could result in the area ending up at or below sea level, said Cal State Fullerton professor Matt Kirby, who worked with the paper´s lead author, graduate student Robert Leeper.
The study showed that land within major Californian seismic faults could sink by 1.5 and three feet instantly.
The last known major quake occurred on the San Andreas fault in 1857.
Seismologists estimate the 800 mile-long San Andreas, which runs most of the length of the state, should see a large quake roughly every 150 years.
'It´s something that would happen relatively instantaneously,' Kirby said.
'Probably today if it happened, you would see seawater rushing in.'
The study was limited to a roughly two-square-mile area inside the Seal Beach National Wildlife Refuge, near the Newport-Inglewood and Rose Canyon faults.
Kirby acknowledged that the exact frequency of events on the faults is unclear, as is the risk that another quake will occur in the near future.

The smallest of the historic earthquakes was likely more intense than the strongest on record in the area, the magnitude 6.3 Long Beach earthquake of 1933, which killed 120 people and caused the inflation-adjusted equivalent of nearly a billion dollars in damage.
Today, the survey site is sandwiched by the cities of Huntington Beach and Long Beach, home to over 600,000 people.
Nearby Los Angeles County has a population of 10 million.

CALIFORNIA AT RISK OF DEVASTATING MEGA QUAKE

A report from the U.S. Geological Survey has warned the risk of 'the big one' hitting California has increased dramatically.
Researchers analysed the latest data from the state's complex system of active geological faults, as well as new methods for translating these data into earthquake likelihoods.
The estimate for the likelihood that California will experience a magnitude 8 or larger earthquake in the next 30 years has increased from about 4.7% to about 7.0%, they say.
'We are fortunate that seismic activity in California has been relatively low over the past century,' said Tom Jordan, Director of the Southern California Earthquake Center and a co-author of the study.
'But we know that tectonic forces are continually tightening the springs of the San Andreas fault system, making big quakes inevitable.'
Seismologist John Vidale, head of the University of Washington-based Pacific Northwest Seismic Network, said after reviewing the study he was skeptical such powerful quakes could occur very frequently in the area.
Kirby noted that the team could only collect soil core samples within the relatively undisturbed refuge.
He said that taking deeper samples would shed light on the seismic record even further back, potentially giving scientists more examples of similar quakes to work from.

PLANS FOR 'THE BIG ONE'

Federal, state and military officials have been working together to draft plans to be followed when the 'Big One' happens.
These contingency plans reflect deep anxiety about the potential gravity of the looming disaster: upward of 14,000 people dead in the worst-case scenarios, 30,000 injured, thousands left homeless and the region's economy setback for years, if not decades.
As a response, what planners envision is a deployment of civilian and military personnel and equipment that would eclipse the response to any natural disaster that has occurred so far in the US.
This haunting photograph shows people walking through rubble in San Francisco on 18 April 1906. Many people are worried that the city and LA, for example, would look like this again due to a massive quake

There would be waves of cargo planes, helicopters and ships, as well as tens of thousands of soldiers, emergency officials, mortuary teams, police officers, firefighters, engineers, medical personnel and other specialists.
'The response will be orders of magnitude larger than Hurricane Katrina or Super Storm Sandy,' said Lt. Col. Clayton Braun of the Washington State Army National Guard.

Ezekiel 36:8 Prophecy Is Coming True in The Galilee!

Ezekiel 36:8 Prophecy Is Coming True in The Galilee!

One of the benefits of living in modern Israel is physically experiencing Biblical prophecy coming to life.

Two families who moved to Israel's Upper Galilee town of Yavne'el from Canada daily witness Jacob's blessing to his son Naftali, one of the twelve Israelite tribes, coming to fruition right in their own backyards.

"Yavne'el is in the portion of the Land of Israel which Jacob blessed to be fertile and for the fruit to ripen quickly," explained Rabbi Shmuel Veffer, owner of Galilee Green, a leading producer and exporter of high quality extra virgin olive oil from Israel.

"When we and our business partners Nili and Arnie Abrahams experienced the blossoming of the region around us, we realized that we were watching the prophecy of Ezekiel 36:8 comes to life, 'But you, O mountains of Israel, you will put forth your branches and bear your fruit for My people Israel; for they will soon come.'"

The Veffer and Abrahams families recognized the unique blessing of the region when, several years ago, they joined the local community's olive harvest.

They picked the lush olives and immediately pressed them into an amazingly high quality oil which far surpassed anything they had ever tasted.

This lead to their realization that people all over the world would benefit from God's blessing of the land and thus, Galilee Green was born.

A quick tour of the greater Yavne'el region reveals many archaeological digs with ancient olive presses. In Biblical times, olives were grown for oil, not for eating whole.

The oil was used both for food and in lamps for illumination.

Today, olive oil is commonly known to be a healthful addition to everyone's diet. Additionally, Jewish people often use olive oil with floating wicks as lights to welcome in the Sabbath.

"Galilee Green fulfills many purposes. Besides sharing the blessing of the land and delicious extra virgin olive oil from Israel with the world, we also help support immigrants living locally who are struggling to make a living," said Rabbi Veffer.

"Purchasing Galilee Green extra virgin olive oil is also a way for people all over the world to fight the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement, which unfairly targets Israeli products."

The Bible teaches that there is a unique relationship between the Jewish people and the Land of Israel.

According to prophecy, the Holy Land will remain barren until the Jews return to it.

Then, the land will flourish and give forth abundant fruit. Indeed, this is what is happening today.

"We are blessed to live in the Land of Israel, produce a Biblical product and share these blessings with the world," smiled Rabbi Veffer.

"We feel that we are fulfilling Biblical prophecy and Genesis 12:3, 'I will bless those who bless you, And the one who curses you I will curse. And in you all the families of the earth will be blessed.'"

Staying in The Game: Christians Don't Retire from Kingdom Work

Staying in The Game: Christians Don't Retire from Kingdom Work - John Stonestreet - http://www.prophecynewswatch.com/article.cfm?recent_news_id=1109

Narrowly escaping the jaws of a large reptile might get you thinking about your life. But you don't have to wait 'til then to make important changes.

C. S. Lewis wrote that pain is God's megaphone--something He uses when He can't get our attention any other way.

I know at least one Christian who has an idea of what that's like: God got his attention after--and I'm not making this up--he was nearly eaten by a crocodile.

Bill Beattie was a businessman whose life was going quite well. He'd been happily married for 35 years, and his three children were leading productive lives.

He expected to spend the years ahead peacefully serving as an elder in his church in Danbury, Connecticut.

But God was prompting Bill toward other things. Problem was, Bill wasn't listening. That changed after a canoeing adventure on the Zambezi River, home to hippos and crocodiles, during an anniversary trip to Africa with his wife Kathie.

Bill recalls, "I was a novice canoeist and had foolishly rejected Kathie's suggestion of canoeing lessons prior to the trip."

The guide gave them a five-minute training session, and sent the couple paddling away, headed downstream. They were "eyeball-to eyeball with hippos at every turn," Bill recalls.

The expression on Kathie's face told him that his wife was terrified.

And she was right to be. They suddenly struck a submerged tree trunk and capsized the canoe. The rescue team quickly picked up Kathie, but their canoe could not hold another person.

Bill tried to right his own canoe and climb on top of it as the crocodiles watched.

Struggling with his canoe, Bill didn't notice, but his companions did, that a 13-foot crocodile came within 10 feet of him before turning and pursuing some of the flotsam from the canoe that had gone floating down the river.

Around the campfire that evening, Bill reflected on what had happened that day. It was extraordinary, he says, "that the croc did not attack and drag me to the bottom.

I sensed that God had intervened on my behalf to save me for His purposes."

Back home, Bill began to consider his areas of strength, and consulted with friends.

Believing God was leading him to start a ministry for at risk, inner-city boys, he founded the Pathways Danbury, a mentoring ministry which now reaches girls as well. Christian adults provide them with one-on-one mentoring, Bible study, and tutoring.

They can attend Bible camp in the summer, and if they graduate from high school meeting standards of excellence, they're given a $10,000 grant for education, business, or housing.

Some 70 boys and girls are now involved in the Pathways Danbury mentoring program, which was expanded in 2008 to include Pathways Academy Middle School and the "Say Yes" after-school program.

The key to their ministry, Bill notes, "continues to be sharing Jesus on a long-term basis to kids who are at risk for drugs and alcohol . . . delinquency and family instability."

Now frequently on BreakPoint, we like to share stories of Christians like Bill who are making a difference in the world by tackling the brokenness in their own backyard.

We do this to remind us that all is not lost... that God has his people everywhere, enlisting them in his Kingdom work to make all things new, like Bill in Danbury, Connecticut.

And if God is at work there, He's at work around you too.

Bill's story also reminds me how much Chuck Colson hated the idea that retirement is about spending the rest of your life on the golf course. He would have none of that.

Christians don't retire from Kingdom work, he'd often say. Bill's story was told in a manual for the Halftime Institute, which offers resources to help believers intentionally aim the second half of their lives at serving Jesus.

But there's no need to wait until you're nearing retirement: God has placed you where He has for a purpose right now.

And if you'd like to lock in on a life plan for Kingdom work, the Colson Fellows program will prepare you for that. Study with great worldview teachers, and join motivated fellow believers for an intense and intensely rewarding nine months of worldview teaching and preparation to engage the culture around you.

Do this in Remembrance of Me

22"And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission.
23It was therefore necessary that the patterns of things in the heavens should be purified with these; but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these.
24For Christ is not entered into the holy places made with hands, which are the figures of the true; but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us:
25Nor yet that he should offer himself often, as the high priest entereth into the holy place every year with blood of others;
26For then must he often have suffered since the foundation of the world: but now once in the end of the world hath he appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself." (Hebrews 9:22-26)

A most solemn time approaches that all men and women who have professed Jesus Christ, as our Lord and Savior, observe what the Son of God did for all mankind by making Himself the Supreme sacrifice to give us justification before a Holy God, our Father. Jesus was called by John the Baptist most truthfully when he saw Jesus walking near-by.

"The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.

30This is he of whom I said, After me cometh a man which is preferred before me: for he was before me.
31And I knew him not: but that he should be made manifest to Israel, therefore am I come baptizing with water.
32And John bare record, saying, I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it abode upon him.
33And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he which baptizeth with the Holy Ghost.
34And I saw, and bare record that this is the Son of God.
35Again the next day after John stood, and two of his disciples;
36And looking upon Jesus as he walked, he saith, Behold the Lamb of God!" John 1:29-36)

John the Baptist came in the spirit and power of Elijah, to proclaim the coming of our Lord, and made His pathway straight. Jesus was truly the Lamb of God, and during this time of year, we memorialize in contrite, humble and thankful hearts that Jesus loved us, before we loved Him. ..

OUR PASSOVER IS SLAIN FOR US

But what of this sacrifice that Jesus made. Many scoff at the notion of one Man being able to cleanse a person of their sins and make them whole again before an Almighty God. Even in the ancient days after this act of unselfish love was completed, men couldn't not fathom why this new Christian sect was behaving such as they were. One of the crimes that was ascribed to the early Christians was that Christian worship services included the practice of cannibalism.

Christians were labeled to repeat the sacrifice of Jesus and then eat the body and drink the blood of its victim.

It's all very vague, but all that the Roman population knew about Christianity was that it place a huge emphasis on the value of blood sacrifice. Even today, in our so called "modern" world it is still slammed by its critics as a bloody religion because the Bible seems to be so obsessed by it. As the opening verses attest, the Bible is dependent on the blood, "for without blood, there is no remission of sins".

Without the shedding of blood, can there never be forgiveness, there can be no regeneration, no peace, no joy, no rest, no hope, and certainly no Resurrection from the dead. Through out the whole of the New Testament, Jesus is portrayed as that sinless "LAMB of GOD" and the title is always associated with His atoning work on the Cross, in which He shed His precious blood as full payment for the sins of the world....for your sins, for my sins.

Remove the Blood Doctrine of Jesus shedding His blood and the Doctrine of Atonement goes with it. If one breaks down the word Atonement into its component parts, the word defines itself according to its original meaning "At One Ment" We are made at one with God the Father through the sacrifice of His Son. We were separated from God through our first human parents, Adam and Eve, when they chose to rebel against the only commandment that was given to them.

Adam and Eve were told that the penalty for breaking God's command not to violate the Tree of Knowledge was death.

"But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die." (Genesis 2:17)

God made provision for their sin, killing two animals and covering their nakedness with their skins.  That was the first blood shed to cover sin, and God set up a system of sacrifice whereby the blood of bullocks, goats and lambs kept that one Great Object Lesson before the people.

Sin has a blood penalty, and the penalty must be paid.

IN TIME OF ABRAHAM

In Genesis Chapter 15, we find Abram questioning God's promise that his seed will be numbered as the stars of heaven and that they would inherit the land to which God had led him.....Not that Abraham didn't have faith that God was able to do exactly what He said He was going to do, but wanted to know how would this be accomplished.

..Remember the story?

3"And Abram said, Behold, to me thou hast given no seed: and, lo, one born in my house is mine heir.
4And, behold, the word of the LORD came unto him, saying, This shall not be thine heir; but he that shall come forth out of thine own bowels shall be thine heir.
5And he brought him forth abroad, and said, Look now toward heaven, and tell the stars, if thou be able to number them: and he said unto him, So shall thy seed be.
6And he believed in the LORD; and he counted it to him for righteousness.
7And he said unto him, I am the LORD that brought thee out of Ur of the Chaldees, to give thee this land to inherit it.
8And he said, Lord GOD, whereby shall I know that I shall inherit it? (Genesis 15:3-8)

Even though Abraham believed God, He wanted a guarantee, nonetheless of how this was to be accomplished. It was at this point, that God proposed a blood covenant after the manner of the Chaldeans. This was something Abraham was familiar with....And God said :

9" And he said unto him, Take me an heifer of three years old, and a she goat of three years old, and a ram of three years old, and a turtledove, and a young pigeon.
10And he took unto him all these, and divided them in the midst, and laid each piece one against another: but the birds divided he not.
11And when the fowls came down upon the carcases, Abram drove them away.
12And when the sun was going down, a deep sleep fell upon Abram; and, lo, an horror of great darkness fell upon him." (Genesis 15:9-12)

The blood covenant worked this way.  The animals were slaughtered and cut up.  The pieces were intermingled and then carefully arranged to form a kind of aisle through which the two parties to the covenant would walk together, hands joined.

The principle of a blood covenant, and the symbolism of the rended animal parts was clearly understood to Abram.  Whoever broke the covenant would end up like those piles of animals.

A blood covenant was, by common custom, a joining of 2 or more persons, families, clans, tribes, or nations, where the participants agree to do or refrain from doing certain acts.

More specifically, God had proposed a patriarchal covenant.  The patriarchal form of covenant is a self-imposed obligation of a superior party, to the benefit of an inferior party.

In this form, the terms the parties use to refer to each other are: father and son.

God's proposal included not only Abram, but extended to Abram's seed forever.

Abraham waited for God to show up so they could bind the covenant between them. But as night began to fall, Abraham became sleep and great sleep fell upon him. As Abraham slept, he awoke to see what was happening and the Bible records it.

"it came to pass, that, when the sun went down, and it was dark, behold a smoking furnace, and a burning lamp that passed between those pieces. In the same day the LORD made a covenant with Abram, saying, Unto thy seed have I given this land, from the river of Egypt unto the great river, the river Euphrates:" (Genesis 15:17-18)

Althought the covenant was between God and Abram (and the seed God promised would fill the earth, as the stars of heaven), God signed on both sides of the covenant, thereby binding Himself to both parts. As history sadly records, Abram and his seed did not remain faithful to this covenant, and the penalty for violating a blood covenant was death.

God knew before the foundation of the world, that man was not able to keep this blood covenant, nor had the ability to save himself by any action on his part. So God stepped out of eternity and entered into our space and time, to keep the provisions of the original blood covenant and be a true Son, as it demanded.

And having kept its terms on behalf of sinful humanity, it was incumbent upon Him to make payment, as justice demanded, for its violation by those on whose behalf the covenant was signed.

It nearly breaks my heart when I contemplate on that I put my Lord Jesus through such a torture for the like of one such as I. Even as a small boy, when read from my mother's bible story book and we read the details of what Jesus allowed Himself to endure, it brought tears to my eyes...and you know...it's still does when I ponder such great love and the suffering He went through, just to save a worm like me.

6 "For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.
7For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die.
8But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
9Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him." (Romans 5:6-9)

JESUS FULFILLED THE BLOOD COVENANT

But getting back to the original blood covenant, signed in its entirety by God. It was a grisly symbol of the person who violated this contract, in that they were
To be torn and rended like the animals that formed the corridor through which God alone passed. Isaiah gives us a hint of what Jesus had to go through in chapter 53:

5"But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with His stripes we are healed.
6All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.
7He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth.
8He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare his generation? for he was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was he stricken.
9And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth.
10Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand.
11He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities." (Isaiah 53:5-11)

It may seem a bit unclear, as to how can an innocent man assume the guilt of anther and call it justice?

Thinking on that premise, when a person becomes a Christian, he becomes a part of the Body of Christ.  He is joined with Christ, and indwelt by the Holy Spirit.  He becomes 'one with Christ'.

Let's make a real life example, that may or may not have actually happened, but illustrates the point. Suppose a debt ridden widow lived next door to a millionaire. Her debts could not be justly charges to him. BUT, if he was to marry her, legally and justly, he assumed the responsibility for both her assets and her debts. Then speaking of sinful mankind who was dead in their sins, because of the transgressions of the law, because that is what sin is.

"Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law (our first husband) by the body of Christ (that is by Christ's death); that ye should be married to another, even to Him (Christ) who is raised from the dead." (Romans 7:4)

As was written by Clarence Larkin back in 1911,

As sinners we were under the "curse of the Law," but as believers-- "Christ hath redeemed us from the CURSE of the Law, being made a CURSE for us:

12 "And the law is not of faith: but, The man that doeth them shall live in them. (although none of us could keep the law) emphasis mine.
13Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:
14That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith" (Galatians 3:12-14)

The "Tree" that Christ hung on was the CROSS.

We are therefore DEAD to the Law: not physically dead, but JUDICIALLY dead, for the "Penalty" of a law cannot be exacted twice. If Jesus "bare our sins in His own body upon the Tree" (1st Peter 2:24), then they are no longer upon us and we are free from sin. The death of Christ was no mere accident or incident, it was predetermined from the foundation of the world.

18 "Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;
19But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:
20Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you,
21Who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God." (1st Peter 1:18-21)

In the words of the old Gospel song,
"What can wash away my sin?
Nothing but the blood of Jesus; What can make me whole again? Nothing but the blood of Jesus. . .
Oh! precious is the flow; That makes me white as snow; No other fount I know . . .
Nothing but the blood of Jesus."

HOW DOES THIS AFFECT YOU?

If you contemplate the wonderful words that show how Jesus was foreordained to be the propitiation or substitute for our penalty that was most deserving for each one who has transgressed God's Holy Law, as sin is the transgression of the Law, then you can see, that the only remedy for our redemption was in a blood covenant satisified in justice before a Holy God. It was the death and resurrection of our Lord God, Jesus Christ for the payment for our sins, once and for all. One time, for all eternity was this payment made, when Jesus said "it is finished" it was most certainly completed.

13"And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses;
14Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;
15And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it." Colossians 2:13-15)

What were those ordinances that were against us and what did He nail to His cross...? Our sins, the penalty of those sins that condemned us to the same kind of death as those sacrificial animals. Jesus paid the ultimate price. And during this season of the coming "Passover of God" let us humble ourselves and give thanks and rededicate ourselves to serving a Great God and King, our Lord Jesus Christ...don't just take those emblems of what Jesus did , without a deep reflection of the enormous gift that He gave to each of us, written in His own Blood.

" 16For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
17For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
18He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God." (John 3:16-18)
