Socialism increasing in America - Bill Wilson -
The Daily Caller reports, "Young Democratic Socialists of America (YDSA) says it currently has 57 registered chapters on college campuses, according to Democratic Socialists of America Program Associate Lawrence Dreyfuss, up from just 15 in 2016. YDSA has experienced 280 percent increase in the number of clubs from 2016 to 2018." YSDA previously reported it had over 250 registered chapters, but Dreyfuss told the Daily Caller those 250 campuses initially expressed interest (they filled out a form), but in terms of establishing an active chapter, they wound up with 57. A 2016 Gallup Poll indicated that 55% of 18-29 year olds view socialism as positive. The Democratic Party leadership believes it's the "future of the party."
This is a two-fold issue. First, that young people would embrace a form of government that resulted in the deaths of some 100 million people in the 20thcentury is an amazing phenomena for a free nation. Does anyone remember the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR)? Apparently, America's youth do not. Second, the Christian church in America is not doing its job-if it were, our young people would understand that any form of communism (socialism, progressivism, communism, Marxism, even Nazism) is against God. The Communist Manifesto says, "...Communism abolishes eternal truths, it abolishes all religion, and all morality, instead of constituting them on a new basis; it therefore acts in contradiction to all past historical experience."
It also doesn't work economically. William Bradford described the Pilgrim's failed socialist experiment of The Virginia Company Charter in "Of Plymouth Plantation": "The experience that was had in this common course and condition, tried sundry years and amongst godly and sober men, may well evince the vanity of that conceit of Plato's and other ancients applauded by some of later times; that the taking away of property and bringing in community into a commonwealth would make them happy and flourishing, as if they were wiser than God." Bradford was familiar with Plato's "Republic" espousing a utopian society under socialism. In ending this experiment that nearly cost the colony their lives, Bradford wrote: "...God in his wisdom saw another course fitter for them." This was the first capitalist system and the Plymouth colony then prospered.
Unfortunately, many Christians believe in socialism, citing Acts 2:44, "And all that believed were together and had (shared) all things in common." There is a tremendous difference between voluntarily sharing and being forced to share the fruits of your labor by the government. This is a far cry from the blessing of voluntarily sharing with others. . As Solomon writes in Ecclesiastes 3:13, "every man should eat and drink, and enjoy the good of all his labor, it is the gift of God." Responsible Capitalism is aligned with the Biblical principle that whatever you sow, you will also reap. The first commandment, Exodus 20:1 says, "Thou shalt have no other gods before me." That includes government. Moreover, Bradford is still right. Man is not wiser than God. Young people would be wise to heed his advice. But they also must be taught why it's so dangerous.
