ISIS UPDATE: 5.8.15 - FBI Director confirms Islamic threat in US

FBI director admits ISIS influence growing in U.S. - Kevin Johnson - http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2015/05/07/isis-attacks-us/70945534/

In a dramatic assessment of the domestic threat posed by the Islamic State, FBI Director James Comey said Thursday there are "hundreds, maybe thousands" of people across the country who are receiving recruitment overtures from the terrorist group or directives to attack the U.S.

Comey said the Islamic State, also known as ISIL, is leveraging social media in unprecedented ways through Twitter and other platforms, directing messages to the smartphones of "disturbed people'' who could be pushed to launch assaults on U.S. targets.

"It's like the devil sitting on their shoulders, saying 'kill, kill, kill,''' Comey said in a meeting with reporters.

The FBI director's comments come in the midst of a federal investigation into a foiled attack in Garland, Texas, involving two ISIL sympathizers, one of whom, Elton Simpson, was long known to federal authorities.

Comey said Thursday that hours before the attempted Garland attack, FBI agents sent a bulletin to local authorities indicating that Simpson may have been interested in traveling there from Phoenix to attend the conference featuring controversial cartoon depictions of the prophet Mohammed. At the time, Comey said, agents did not have specific information that Simpson had targeted the meeting.

The 30-year-old Simpson and associate Nadir Soofi, 34, were fatally shot by a police officer Sunday night after the pair launched a bungled attack on the conference.

Simpson had been known to authorities since 2006 when he surfaced in a separate terror investigation. He was subsequently convicted in 2011 and sentenced to three years probation. A new investigation into Simpson's activities was opened in March after he posted suspicious statements on social media, Comey said Thursday.

The FBI director declined to elaborate on why agents alerted Garland authorities to Simpson's possible interest in the local event, though he said there was "no reason to believe he would attack or that he had left'' his home in Phoenix.

Comey also said there was no information to suggest that police in Garland connected the information provided in the bulletin to Simpson at the time Simpson and Soofi were shot.

The director said the Texas case is emblematic of a larger concern facing counter-terrorism authorities related to ISIL's aggressive pursuit of U.S.-based and other converts.

Authorities have said that ISIL's recruiting strategy - its personal outreach efforts through Twitter and slick application of other social media - represents an unmatched level of sophistication demonstrated by terrorist organizations in the aftermath of 9/11.

Unlike al-Qaeda, for example, ISIL does not attempt to exert authority to vet attack plans proposed by its followers.

Bruce Hoffman, a longtime terrorism analyst and director of Georgetown University's Center for Peace and Security Studies, said in a recent interview that ISIL's multifaceted outreach and leveraging of social media is threatening to "outpace the government's capabilities across the intelligence community.''

"It's like the Dutch boy sticking his fingers in the dike,'' Hoffman said.

Indeed, Comey said that ISIL recruiters operating from safe havens in Syria are making initial contacts with recruits, mostly on Twitter, and are then "steering'' them into encrypted venues where their subsequent communications are "lost to us.''

"The haystack is the entire country,'' Comey said. "We are looking for the needles, but increasingly the needles are unavailable to us. ... This is the 'going dark' problem in living color. There are Elton Simpsons out there that I have not found and I cannot see.''

Comey said agents are working hundreds of investigations around the country involving suspected homegrown violent extremists. The director said the inquiries are open in all 56 of the FBI's field divisions.

"ISIL is a very popular fad among a lot of disturbed people,'' he said.

ABC News reports that FBI Director James Comey told ABC and a small group of reporters that there may be thousands of Islamic State recruits in the United States being radicalized through social media. He also said that finding them was like searching for a needle in a haystack and "increasingly the needles are invisible to us." Comey says that IS is using social media and other "radical poisonous propaganda" to encourage joining and traveling to the "caliphate to fight," but also saying "if you can't travel, kill where you are." Comey said, "It's almost as if there is a devil sitting on the shoulder saying, 'Kill, kill, kill, kill' all day long." There is. They call him allah.

This is a pretty stark observation for a government that has continuously painted Islam as a religion of peace. Furthermore, Comey should be asking of his boss, the "president," why the border remains open, and why the Justice Department refuses to enforce immigration laws. It seems that the government has assisted in creating the problem of Islamic infiltration and colonization in this country, and now, is pointing out the obvious without admitting it's complicity. One of the terrorists in Sunday's attack in Garland, Texas had been investigated by the FBI, indicted, and convicted on terrorism charges, but never went to prison. Instead, because of legal technicalities, he was sentenced to probation.

It seems a strange game that the government is playing. They allow the terrorists into the US. They even promote Islam as a peaceful religion. They keep an eye on and track terrorist wannabes and when they catch them, the would be terrorists end up in community service programs rather than in jail or being executed. All the while, the government is saying there is a terrorist threat within the country. That an attack could happen any minute. Keeping people on edge, getting them to report one another, and tightening down on civil rights and freedoms. Too much evidence points to a government that is allowing a deadly threat so it can apply stronger control to the law abiding.

The government uses each threat to tighten its grip on society. It lets terrorists in and then tells us there is a terrorist threat. When a terrorist strikes, it takes away more privacy and increases surveillance on all citizens using the excuse of finding needles in a haystack. Now that terrorism is becoming "mainstreamed" through social media and recruitment of domestics, it becomes inevitable that there will be more attacks. This is very real. Islam is trying to take down America. That means you and me. Christ said in John 10:10, "The thief comes not, but to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly." You see the difference? Speak and live Christ; make disciples through your words and example; change the nation

The coming Islamic storm - Bill Wilson - www.dailyjot.com

Thanks to a "president" who wants open borders and an Attorney General who refuses to enforce border security, America has been infiltrated with deadly enemies that are now surfacing. The Islamic State (IS) attack this week in Garland, Tx, resulted in a quick death for the terrorists, but exposed a deeper issue that has many Americans worried--there is a network of terrorists within the country who are biding their time to steal, kill and destroy. There is a very distinct possibility that IS terrorists are uniting with the Muslim Brotherhood, the New Black Panthers, the Nation of Islam and other militant Islamic-based groups to foment violent civil unrest aimed at Christians and Jews and supported by the news media.

The news media, including conservative darling FOX News, has taken Pamela Geller, head of the American Freedom Defense Initiative, to task for criticism of Islam. Muslims should be a protected group, they say, and that Geller promotes hate speech. This media commentary is misguided drivel, but it is very dangerous because it emboldens the violent groups within America with Islamic foundations. What could be more hateful than the IS vowing to murder Geller and anyone who supports her because she sponsored a cartoon drawing contest? She should be commended for doing something the government refuses to do--exposing the depth and breadth of militants aimed at destroying America.

In a post entitled "A New Era," IS wrote: "The attack by the Islamic State in America is only the beginning of our efforts to establish a wiliyah in the heart of our enemy. Our aim was the khanzeer Pamela Geller and to show her that we don't care what land she hides in or what sky shields her; we will send all our Lions to achieve her slaughter...We have 71 trained soldiers in 15 different states ready at our word to attack any target we desire. Out of the 71 trained soldiers 23 have signed up for missions like Sunday, We are increasing in number bithnillah. Of the 15 states, 5 we will name... Virginia, Maryland, Illinois, California, and Michigan." Islam, a real peaceful religion, right? No hate there.

Certainly, the current administration carries implicit blame for allowing all things Muslim to permeate this country. Islam is antithetical to a free society and has nothing in common with the American Republic. Moreover, the news media is so liberal that it is willfully blinded to its own nonsense, yet it influences millions of unsuspecting low information citizens. Persecution and unrest is likely to follow such as we have never seen in this country. Our collective disobedience to the Lord in electing such leadership and allowing such immorality to anchor in our society has consequences. As in Jeremiah 52:14, "The LORD of hosts hath sworn by himself, saying, Surely I will fill thee with men, as with locusts; and they shall lift up a battle cry against thee." I pray it isn't so. But we must prepare ourselves for the storm ahead. Know the Word, pray, act.
Islamic attack in Texas will impact free speech - Bill Wilson - www.dailyjot.com

It's already happening. People are blaming the American Freedom Defense Initiative (AFDI) for baiting the Islamic State (IS) terrorists into the Garland, Tx attack by the AFDI using cartoons of Mohammad and posting billboards and ads condemning Islam. The Southern Poverty Law Center, a leftist "civil rights" advocacy organization, designates AFDI as a hate group, although Southern Poverty Law Center spreads its own brand of hate against Christians and conservatives. Even the LA Times, supposed guardian of free speech, has written: "The Garland attack refocused public attention on the fine line between free speech and hate speech in the ideological struggle between radical Islam and the West."

There is no fine line between free speech and hate speech where Islam is concerned. The West is where guaranteed free speech was invented. Telling the truth about a vicious and brutal death cult is not hate speech. Let's get real here. Every year, the US State Department releases a report on human rights practices. And every year, Islamic nations are an overwhelming majority when it comes to practicing human trafficking and violating human rights. Sex trade, slave trade, drug trade, and crime are hallmarks of Islam. The rights of women and children are trampled. There is no freedom of speech or of religion. This is documented and one doesn't have to look far to find it. And that's the easy stuff.

Where around the world can you find systematic and brutal murdering of anyone who disagrees with a religion, other than Islam? Where? Islam's holy book, the Koran, instructs its disciples to kill infidels, namely Christians and Jews. Anyone who refuses to submit to Islam is to be killed, according to the Koran. There is no better representative of this theology than the self-proclaimed Caliphate, Islamic State. The IS is marauding across the Middle East burning alive, crucifying, burying alive, and beheading anyone and everyone who disagrees with them, including women and children. Telling the atrocities of Islam is not hate speech, it is the truth. It's no fine line, it's a wide one drawn in blood with the pen of atrocity.

You cannot appease the bloodthirsty and expect peace. Speaking of the peril of false teaching and sin, Jeremiah 8:11 says "For they have healed the hurt of the daughter of my people slightly, saying Peace, peace; when there is no peace." Verse 15 says, "We looked for peace, but no good came; and for a time of health, and behold terror!" The tolerance and appeasement of evil will lead to destruction. Christians must stand strong and not allow evil Islam and its minions to make truth as hate speech. The tweets from Islamists in the Garland incident that drove those two terrorist wannabes to their death was the real hate speech. Free speech is the hedge that stands between Islam and carnage. Americans would do well to recognize this and vehemently resist the appeasers who would sacrifice truth for a false peace.
