With the announcement that the US is going to pull out of Syria, the other players are scrambling to fill the void and seize the power shift. One of the players, Turkey, represents the area mentioned as the leader of a coalition against Israel in the Ezekiel 38 end time prophecy. That prophecy states that Magog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal, will lead "Persia (iran), Ethiopia (Sudan) and Libya with them (verse 5)" against the mountains of Israel in a colossal end time battle. Magog, Meshech and Tubal are all ancient locations in Turkey. The meeting of Russia's President Vladimir Putin and Turkey's Recep Tayyip Erdogan aimed to broker alignment between Turkey, Syria, Iran and Russia.

 

Russia supports Iran. Syria is a vassal state of Iran. A 1998 agreement between Russia and Turkey, according to Bloomberg, "states that Syria won't permit any activity on its territory that would jeopardize Turkey's security." Russia wants the government in Damascus to assert control over the Kurdish-held territory once US forces leave, which constitutes a "safe zone." When the US withdraws, Turkey wants to attack the Kurds in Syria, which Erdogan believes pose a threat to Turkey's national security. Putin is leveraging the 1998 agreement to say that Syria will take care of the Kurds in Syrian territory, hoping that Turkey will restore ties with Syria. Russia and Iran have helped keep Syria's Bashar Assad in power.

 

The current focus of Turkey and Russia in Syria likely advances the prophecy clock. Turkey, obviously, is a primary player in establishing the stage of the end times. Russia is representing the interests of Turkey's competitor Iran. Iran eventually submits to Turkey, if only long enough to invade Israel in the end of days. Syria is also a prophetic player as indicated by Isaiah 17:1 stating, "Behold, Damascus is taken away from being a city, and it shall be a ruinous heap." All these end time players are working together against Israel, while reluctantly sharing, giving, and taking power. But it is Turkey, where the ancient regions of Magog lay, and Pergamos, where Jesus says Satan's seat is, that bears watching for the end of days.

 

In Daniel 8:19, Gabriel says, "Behold, I will make thee know what shall be in the last end of the indignation: for at the time appointed the end shall be. The ram which you saw having two horns are the kings of Media and Persia. And the rough goat is the king of Grecia." Strong's Concordance interprets the word "Grecia" in Hebrew as "Yavan, a son of Japheth (the third son of Noah)," his descendants and their land. The Genesis 10 table of nations indicates this area was not only Greece (as Bible interpretations imply), but also the Eastern Mediterranean, including key parts of today's Turkey. Other sons of Japheth were Gomer, Magog, Madai, Tubal, Meshech, and Tiras-many settled in ancient areas of Turkey, which are mentioned in Ezekiel 38. This is why we need to keep an eye on Turkey when considering end time prophecy.

The meeting between Turkey's dictator president Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Russia's President Vladimir Putin was couched on the premise of peace, but it was more likely jockeying for position to war on Israel. Let us remember in May 2018 when Turkey attempted to use the terrorist group Hamas-inspired riots, ostensibly in response to the US recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, to unite the Islamic world against Israel. Press TV reported "Ankara has reacted with fury to the killing Monday of 60 Palestinians in clashes and protests, on the same day as the United States formally moved its embassy in Israel to Jerusalem al-Quds from Tel Aviv in defiance of international outrage."

 

Turkey led the media charge that Israel is a terrorist state because it "massacred" some 60 "Palestinians" on the day the US Embassy was dedicated. And the generally anti-Israel media and the United Nations bought into the propaganda as if Israel just decided to go out and kill scores of innocents. It mattered not that even Hamas' official Salah Bardawil admitted that at least 50 of the 62 people killed were members of his terrorist group. In short, the violent riots referred to as the "March of Return," are inspired, agitated and organized by Hamas and supported by other terror groups. As White House Deputy Press Secretary Raj Shah said in response, "The responsibility for these tragic deaths rest squarely with Hamas...Israel has the right to defend itself." Turkey continues to maneuver toward leading the Islamic world against Israel.

Gog of Magog, chief prince of Meshech and Tubal leads the Islamic world against Israel in the end time battle prophesied in Ezekiel 38. Participants from modern Turkey include Magog, Tubal, Meshech, Gomor, and Togarmah. Others named are Persia (Iran), Ethiopia (Sudan), Libya, Sheba and Dedan (also Noah's grandsons from Ham-thought to be South Arabia), and Tarshish (unknown but possibly Tunisia or Lebanon). These are all Islamic nations today. The Koran has over 100 verses instructing to fight and kill those who do not follow Islam, specifically Jews and Christians. As prophecy comes more clearly into focus, it could be the Beast of Revelation, that rages against God's people, hails from a revived Ottoman Empire, with Turkey, where the seat of satan resides, leading the way. And we may be seeing it starting to form.

The US intent to pull out of Syria has changed the political dynamics in the Middle East. There are several prophetic aspects in play. With Syria being a vassal state of Iran, two named end time agents are under the influence of events that impact nearby Israel. Add in Turkey, who wishes to emerge as the Islamic leader in the Middle East, and we have yet another player in end time prophecy. Russia is also a power broker as an ally with Iran, Syria and Turkey. Agents of each-Hamas, Hezbollah, and to whatever extent it remains, ISIS-are anti-Israel terrorist groups also adding to the mix. Now, Iran is beginning to rattle the swords of war. We now have modern nations aligning with those of ancient prophecy.

 

According to ASHARQ Al-AWSAT, an Arab world news site, Chief of Staff of Iran's Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Bagheri announced Sunday that Iran will change its military strategy to "offensive" from "defensive" to defend its national interests. This means that Iran will act offensively to defend Syria against Israel using such things as preemptive strikes and other military actions that Iran regards as a threat. This offensive strategy also could apply to Turkey, if that country moves against the Kurds in what is now a "safe zone" in Syrian territory. The stirrings here are made very interesting by the Isaiah 17:1 prophecy that "Damascus is taken away from being a city, and it shall be a ruinous heap."

 

The Times of Israel adds another piece to the end time puzzle being assembled before our very eyes, reporting, "The deputy head of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said Monday that Tehran's strategy was to eventually wipe Israel off the "global political map." Asked by a reporter in Tehran about Israeli threats to strike Iranian forces deployed in Syria, Brig. Gen. Hossein Salami was quoted by Iranian news outlets as saying, "Our strategy is to erase Israel from the global political map. And it seems that, considering the evil that Israel is doing, it is bringing itself closer to that... We announce that if Israel does anything to start a new war, it will obviously be the war that will end with its elimination, and the occupied territories will be returned. The Israelis will not have even a cemetery in Palestine to bury their own corpses.""

 

We know that Isaiah 17 and Ezekiel 38 (which says Gog of Magog (in Turkey) will lead a coalition of forces against Israel "in that day") are end time prophecies by the context of the preceding chapters and those after them. There are many details that must fall in place, not the least of which the Beast (Gog/Assyrian/antichrist) will be revealed before the Day of the Lord occurs. Notwithstanding, this situation in Syria is progressing the dynamics of prophecy and bears watching. We are so caught up with the politics in the United States, that we may be missing key elements of these end time prophecies falling into place. Christ enumerates the chronological order of the end times in Matthew 24. He said there will be wars and rumors of wars. We are not there yet, but the prophetic war drums are sounding in the distance.
