Where are we in Bible Prophecy?

Where are we in Bible Prophecy? - By Susan Mouw - https://www.raptureready.com/2021/12/24/where-are-we-in-bible-prophecy-by-susan-mouw/ The questions I get asked the most these days are, “Where are we now in eschatology?” and “How do you know we are in the end times?” For that first question, I like to usea rather simple analogy. Every day, you drive past this empty lot with a For Sale sign posted in front. One day, you notice the For Sale has a “Sold” banner pasted across it, and you think, “Ohgood, now someone will do something with that empty lot.” Time passes – weeks or perhaps even months – and nothing changes. The For Sale sign with its “Sold” banner still stands, but nothing seems to be happening. After a while, you start to believe the newowners have no plans to improve the property. Then, one day, you pass the empty lot, and there is activity! A foundation has begun, and there are piles of construction material everywhere – stacks of bricks and lumber – with heavy construction equipment idling nearby and crews of workers bustling about. It is obvious that something is finally being built on that vacant lot. This is not unlike where we are with Bible end-times prophecy, or eschatology. All that time you saw nothing going on at that vacant lot, there was actually a lot of activitybehind the scenes: contract negotiations, transfer of title and registration of that new title, designing the new building that will go on that lot, more negotiations with the builder, and so much more – all behind the scenes. But you weren’t a party to allthose transactions, so you didn’t know they were happening. Sound familiar? While much has been happening behind the scenes in preparation for what will happen in the Tribulation, it is only in the last few years that much of that “behind the scenes” work has been revealed. The real difference between this vacant lot analogy and where we are in prophecy? We are well beyond the laying of the foundation. For the answer to that second most commonly asked question, “How do you know we are in the end times?” let’s review what we have seen happening in the world arena over thelast few years. In my previous book, the focus was primarily on Jesus’ response to the Apostles, in what is known as the Olivet Discourse. “And Jesus went out, and departed from the temple: and his disciples came to him for to shew him the buildings of the temple. And Jesus said unto them, See ye not all thesethings? verily I say unto you, There shall not be left here one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down. And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall bethe sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world? “And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you. For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many. And ye shall hearof wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in diversplaces. All these are the beginning of sorrows” (Matthew 24:1-8, KJV). In Go Set A Watchman, we examined each of those items listed: wars and rumors of wars, false prophets, famines, pestilences, and earthquakes and saw the rise in frequencyfor many of them. “In summary, what Jesus told his disciples to look for as signs of “the beginning of sorrows” are indeed happening all around us. While the number of famines has not increasedfrom over the last 3 centuries, experts predict we are headed for a famine “of biblical proportions,” partially due to the impact of the Covid-19 virus. Pestilences have increased notably since the turn of this century, with some new diseases, all of whichare a type of corona virus. Lastly, the number of earthquakes has dramatically increased, and now we have the additional hazard of “man-made” earthquakes in areas not previously known to be at risk.” We looked at the prophecy concerning the Nation of Israel and the rebuilding of the temple in Go Set A Watchman. “Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When his branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is nigh: So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors. Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled. Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away” (Matthew 24:32-34, KJV). The nation of Israel was formed on May 14, 1948. The third temple is not yet built, but plans for it have been underway for quite a while. As of the release date of Go SetA Watchman, many of the preparations for worship in that temple had already been completed, mostly by the Temple Institute: •Temple coin. A new temple coin has been minted, with the image of President Trump and Cyrus the Great, and is available for purchase, with fundsgoing to the rebuilding of the third temple. •Completion of the restoration and construction of the many sacred vessels necessary for use in the service in the Holy Temple. •The sacred garment or ephod of the Cohen HaGadol, his choshen (breastplate), and the tziz zahav (golden crown) are complete and ready. •Building plans for the Temple are complete. Since the publication of that book, the Temple Institute has been busy adding more to that list of items ready for the third temple: •Table of showbread •Altar of incense •Golden Menorah •Two rabbis from the Temple Institute have been to the site where they claim the Ark of the Covenant is stored and ready to be retrieved. (“Preparingfor the Third Temple,” Jimmy DeYoung, https://israelmyglory.org/article/preparing-for-the-third-temple/, May/June 2012) •The cornerstone for the temple, prepared by Gershon Solomon’s Temple Mount Faithful, is ready for construction to begin. •A Training Center in the Jericho Valley has been training those from the tribe of Levi in the roles of priests in service to the Temple. •All of the priestly garments are finished. Rabbi Kahane, the founder of the Temple Institute, has his hanging in his closet, ready to wear. •And, lastly, the 4,000 harps needed for the Temple music are well underway and close to being completed by craftsmen at the House of Harrari. So, plans and preparations for the third Temple in Jerusalem are in place and ready for construction to begin. Indeed, since the publication of Go Set A Watchman, much has happened, and much of that is no longer behind the scenes. One of the big challenges, though there were many,in writing As In the Days of Noah is that as quickly as I would get one chapter written and start on the next, things relative to that previous chapter would occur, and I would have to re-write parts of that chapter. In fact, even since I finished chapters7 and 8 particularly, much more has happened, and we’ll take a look at some of that. If you’ve read the book of Revelation, you know there is much that happens during the Tribulation – the 7 seals, the 7 trumpets, the 7 vials, the Abomination of Desolation, the Two Witnesses, and of course, the Glorious Second Coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. Those events are supernatural and require no preparation or “groundwork” to achieve – at least not by man. They will happen just as the prophecies have foretold. There are other things that happen, however, that do require some preparation. The Mark of the Beast would, arguably, be one of those, as well as the One-World Church andthe One-World Government. The Mark of the Beast The big question I most often hear about the Mark of the Beast is, is the Covid-19 vaccine how the Mark of the Beast will be implemented? Perhaps. All 27 nations of theEU have instituted a “vaccine passport” system, plus Switzerland, Iceland, Norway, and Liechtenstein. These vaccine passports permit those who have been vaccinated to travel and to purchase goods and services. The UK has not fully implemented a similar systembut has stated plans to do so in the future. France and Israel have a fully implemented system. There are more countries that have accepted and implemented some form of the “vaccine passport,” but many of these are printed documentation or, as in China, ascannable QR code. Most of these passports are restrictive to travel, not necessarily preventing those without the passport from purchasing their weekly groceries at the local grocery stores. At least, until recently. Sweden was perhaps the first to introduce the implantable microchip that includes the vaccine and is scannable – by smartphone or other device – to prove they are vaccinatedand allowing them access to restaurants, movie theaters, travel venues, and other public facilities. (“People Get Microchips Implanted That Include Vaccine Records Amid New COVID Restrictions,” Meghan Roos, https://www.newsweek.com/people-get-microchips-implanted-that-include-vaccine-records-amid-new-covid-restrictions-1655916, 12/3/21) In New Brunswick, Canada, grocery stores may now ban unvaccinated shoppers. (“No jab, no food: New Brunswick grocery stores can now ban unvaccinated shoppers,” Harry Johnson,https://eturbonews.com/3010904/no-jab-no-food-new-brunswick-grocery-stores-can-now-ban-unvaccinated-shoppers/, 12/21) So – no “mark,” no food – sound familiar? If you want to learn more about the Covid-19 vaccine and its impact, I recommend watching Billy Crone’s series of videos on the subject. You can find links to his serieson his website, Get A Life Ministries, Inc at https://getalifemedia.com. “And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name” (Revelation 13:16-17, KJV). One-World Church One of the toughest writing assignments I’ve ever had was writing “Chapter 8 – One World Religion.” It was tough because it was hard reading and learning about what is happeningin our churches today. It was tough because it was difficult seeing so many Christians, my brothers and sisters in Christ, literally sticking their heads in the sand and not wanting to hear about the times we are in. It was tough because I suspect some ofthose will not be Raptured with the Church and I will not see them seated at the Wedding Feast of the Lamb. How did the Church get to this place? Well, there are a lot of reasons, primarily that it is as God ordained it to be. A contributing factor might be that our educationalcenters – our seminaries – for preparing our church leaders do not teach eschatology, and many preachers, ministers, and shepherds of the churches today fear teaching it. I recently listened to a radio broadcast put out by Olive Tree Ministries (https://olivetreeviews.org/), where Jan Markell, along with Pastor Tom Hughes and Pastor Mark Henry, discuss the remnant. In that radio broadcast, Jan Markell reads multiple emails she has received from people searching for churches where the whole counsel of God is taught, includingeschatology. In one email, the writer states it has taken her many months, years even, to find a church that would teach from the whole counsel of God. (“The Loneliness of the Remnant Believer, Jan Markel, Pastor Tom Hughes, Pastor Mark Henry, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eNWqOUonHwo, 11/24/18) If you are a Pastor, Minister, or church leader and you are not teaching eschatology in your church today, you might want to listen to that radio broadcast. That broadcastwas from 3 years ago, but that desire by so many to learn more about God’s Word is stronger today than it was then, and God’s people are still searching for answers. If you are not well-learned in that area of God’s word, then pray about it. God will sendthe necessary resources to you. One-World Government “Chapter 7 – One World Government” is probably the most re-written chapter in my latest book. Things are changing so fast, and the pathway to that One-World Government isbeing laid so quickly, it is difficult to keep up with all the changes and advances. But this one-world government, or new world order, is not new. As far back as 1950, the banker James Warburg testified before the United States Senate, proclaiming, “Wewill have a world government, whether you like it or not. The only question that arises is whether this world government will be established by consensus or by force.” (“Infamous James Paul Warburg Quote,” LibertyTree, http://libertytree.ca/quotes/James.Warburg.Quote.BC08,2/17/1950) Plans and decisions have been made to foster and bring about this concept of a one-world government. In 1994, David Rockefeller was quoted at a UN dinner, “We are on the verge of a global transformation. All we need is the ‘right’ global crisis, and the nations will acceptthe New World Order.” (“What the New World Order Would Look Like,” Kalee Brown, https://bibliotecapleyades.net/sociopolitica//sociopol_rockefeller14.htm, 3/21/17) There can be no question that the Covid-19 pandemic, or “planned-demic,” was created and is being used as that “right” global crisis. “The United States of Europe, uncontrolled immigration, the reduction of wages, the cancellation of trade union guarantees, the renunciation of national sovereignty, thesingle currency, the control of citizens under the pretext of a pandemic, and the reduction of the population through the use of vaccines with new technologies are not recent inventions, but the result of a planned, organized and coordinated action — an actionthat clearly shows itself perfectly adhering to a single script under a single direction.” (“Considerations on the Great Reset and the New World Order,” Stephanie Shepard, https://www.theburningplatform.com/2021/09/06/considerations-on-the-great-reset-and-the-new-world-order/,9/6/21) Even the global map, dividing the world into 10 regions as prophesied by Daniel in his interpretation of Nebuchadnezzar’s dream, has been laid out since 1973 when The Clubof Rome first published a proposed division of the world into 10 “economic trading blocs” (“The 10 Regions of the New World Order”, End Times Truth, https://endtimestruth.com/ten-global-regions/, nd) Today, the European Commission has also divided the globe into 10 regions, which looks eerily similar to the earlier one. These 10 regions represent the 10 “kingdoms” that will all cede their power and authority to the Anti-Christ in the Tribulation, giving him total dominion over the entireworld. Remember that analogy at the beginning of this chapter about the vacant lot? Well, the big difference between that analogy and where we are with End Times prophecy is this:in eschatological terms, the foundation is complete, the walls are up, the roof is on, and they are starting to move the furniture in. All that is needed now is to occupy. We Are So Very Close to the Rapture

We Are So Very Close to the Rapture - by pastor Mike Taylor- https://pastormiketaylor.blogspot.com/2021/12/we-are-so-very-close-to-rapture-part-2.html "For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. 16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: 17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord." 1st Thessalonians4:15-17) I will start with the witness of our Lord and Savior's apostle to the Gentiles and taught personally by revelation of Jesus Christ glorified. I had been reading in 1st and2nd Thessalonians this last weekend, and was in total awe with Paul's testimony towards this Church that he founded in the name of Jesus. There is much controversy about what Paul was speaking of and it's timing. I will in this sermon address those controversiesof factions of the religious community that read, what I feel, is not what Jesus, or Paul, John or Daniel was speaking of when it comes to these last days and the appearing of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I get every now and then nay sayers to the conceptof the church being removed out of the way and relying on works of the Torah, or relying on sacred names, which are works that cannot save us. Or they miss the plain word that this world will be receiving God's Divine Wrath upon a sinful world that is in fullrebellion to His Holy Ways . The only substitution for redemption of the breaking of God's Commandments, is in the blood sacrifice of His Only Son, Jesus Christ, which they reject. Let us first go to 1st Thessalonians and read what Paul instructed this early church on what was coming, and was not only for their ears, but was written down for our admonitionin these last days. As is typical for Paul in his letters, he greets them in love in his opening lines to each of the brethren written to. But in reading on down we come to the first hint thatPaul was speaking of a coming event that is yet to transpire. In verse 9, he begins his first nugget of a truth that I have always embraced: 9 " For they themselves shew of us what manner of entering in we had unto you, and how ye turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God; 10 And to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, even Jesus, which delivered us from the wrath to come. (1st Thessalonians 1:9-10) Paul is writing to the church members and Revelation had not even been written yet by John as they are about 30 years apart. Paul speaks of wrath? What wrath from Who? Wrathfrom Almighty God is his reference point. You can find many examples of God's wrath to come, even starting in the Old Testament concerning what is coming: 4 "The LORD hath sworn, and will not repent, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchizedek. 5 The Lord at thy right hand shall strike through kings in the day of his wrath. 6 He shall judge among the heathen, he shall fill the places with the dead bodies; he shall wound the heads over many countries." (Psalms 110:4-6) Paul speaks of it in Hebrews (I believe Paul is the unmentioned author) concerning the wrath of God, 26 "Whose voice then shook the earth: but now he hath promised, saying, Yet once more I shake not the earth only, but also heaven. 27 And this word, Yet once more, signifieth the removing of those things that are shaken, as of things that are made, that those things which cannot be shaken may remain. 28 Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear: 29 For our God is a consuming fire." (Hebrews 12:26-29) Of course, we can get a feel of God's wrath when we go to Revelation, but this book is not the only place that speaks of God's wrath, but we get the intensity and fiercenessof what is coming: 13 "And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casteth her untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind. 14 And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places. 15 And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves inthe dens and in the rocks of the mountains; 16 And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb:" (Revelation 6:13-16) Understand one thing my reader, the coming time of tribulation is divine judgment on a world devoid of love for one another, and committing untold sinful acts in completerebellion to God's Law and authority, and who have whole-hardheartedly rejected the Gospel of Jesus Christ as the only payment for their sinful condition. Do we not understand that God will destroy up to 4/5 of all mankind in horrific environmental catastrophesand what only be assigned extraordinary Divine occurrences not known to man in modern times and can only be attributed to Almighty God? Let us guesstimate the carnage that will be inflicted on this world, if all of us were still on this planet and none ofus were removed. Right now we are approaching or have eclipsed the 7 billion mark of humanity on this planet. If we somehow envision the destruction of 4/5 of all mankind, that would be 5.6 billion people dying a horrible death leaving a little more than 1billion people left. God warned that He will punish the inhabitants of the earth. 19 "Thy dead men shall live, together with my dead body shall they arise. Awake and sing, ye that dwell in dust: for thy dew is as the dew of herbs, and the earth shallcast out the dead. 20 Come, my people, enter thou into thy chambers, and shut thy doors about thee: hide thyself as it were for a little moment, until the indignation be overpast. 21 For, behold, the LORD cometh out of his place to punish the inhabitants of the earth for their iniquity: the earth also shall disclose her blood, and shall no more coverher slain.” (Isaiah 26:19-21) (A clear passage in v. 19-20 of divine intervention and removal of His people before He slays mankind on earth. This is but one of numerous verses that speak of God removingHis people out of the way before His judgment and wrath falls) Oh, I hear the naysayers who say that the last trump in the opening verses are the same trump that the 7th angel blows in Revelation, but fail to understand that Paul wasspeaking of a last trump associated with the Feast of Trumpets. For a detailed summary of my position on this gross error by some churches today, go to my blog and read “Confusion over End-time Events”. In it the conflict over these trumpets will be explainedas they are not the same, but are two separate events with 30 years between passages. Paul steps it up a bit in the next chapter of 1st Thessalonians : 1 "But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you. 2 For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night. 3 For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape. 4 But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief. 5 Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness. 6 Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober. 7 For they that sleep sleep in the night; and they that be drunken are drunken in the night. 8 But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation. 9 For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ," (1st Thessalonians 5:1-9) How much more clear can Paul say it? Do you think that the coming of the Lord when He comes to rule on this planet for 1000 years will be proceeded in secret? Do you thinkHe will come when they expect it not? Paul talks of sudden destruction, as woman in child labor will not escape the pain or the delivery of the baby. What fits this scenario, a sudden, without warning snatching away of children of light, to the horror of thechildren of darkness...OR would it be more plausible for them to be going about business as usual in the very run-up to the Glorious Appearing of Jesus Christ in the clouds of glory with great power (probably proceeded by a great appearance of fire and light,I hypothesize). With almost 6 billion people being consumed, dead bodies all around, animals eating the corpses of those slain, and the carnage of divine retribution in 7 short years, with the majority in the last half of this time period. Would it be businessas usual? Let us examine the signs of His final appearing, shall we? Will it be business as usual? I think you know the answer! 6 " And the seven angels which had the seven trumpets prepared themselves to sound. 7 The first angel sounded, and there followed hail and fire mingled with blood, and they were cast upon the earth: and the third part of trees was burnt up, and all greengrass was burnt up. 8 And the second angel sounded, and as it were a great mountain burning with fire was cast into the sea: and the third part of the sea became blood; 9 And the third part of the creatures which were in the sea, and had life, died; and the third part of the ships were destroyed." (Revelation 8:6-9, 12) Moving on down, 12 "And the fourth angel sounded, and the third part of the sun was smitten, and the third part of the moon, and the third part of the stars; so as the third part of themwas darkened, and the day shone not for a third part of it, and the night likewise." Reading on down the horror that is unleashed by this fourth angel till we get to the fifth angel: 1"And the fifth angel sounded, and I saw a star fall from heaven unto the earth: and to him was given the key of the bottomless pit. 2 And he opened the bottomless pit; and there arose a smoke out of the pit, as the smoke of a great furnace; and the sun and the air were darkened by reason of the smokeof the pit. 3 And there came out of the smoke locusts upon the earth: and unto them was given power, as the scorpions of the earth have power. 4 And it was commanded them that they should not hurt the grass of the earth, neither any green thing, neither any tree; but only those men which have not the seal of Godin their foreheads." (Revelation 9:1-4) More pain and suffering/death when the sixth angel sounds his trumpet: 13 "And the sixth angel sounded, and I heard a voice from the four horns of the golden altar which is before God, 14 Saying to the sixth angel which had the trumpet, Loose the four angels which are bound in the great river Euphrates. 15 And the four angels were loosed, which were prepared for an hour, and a day, and a month, and a year, for to slay the third part of men." (Revelation 9:13-15) Then to the end of the chapter 9, descriptions of a most detailed description of what will befall rebellious mankind. Until, the seventh angel sounds his trumpet to unleashthe final assault upon earth to turn them to repentance, but God knows that they will not. Does this sound like Jesus coming back to this earth as a thief? Will not men know that they are under divine retribution? Will the world that is present be nearly extinguishedof all life from what it was prior to the beginning of the opening of the 1st Seal, as found in Revelation 6:1? Will men be going about business as usual? Men's hearts will be failing them from fear, over what is coming upon the earth as recorded in Luke : 25 'And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring; 26 Men's hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken.” (Luke 21:25-26) Sheer terror will reign supreme. Does this sound like business as usual? Naysayers, ask yourselves, does this sound like as in the time of day of Noah (Matthew 24:37), ordoes it sound like there is another time period prior to these events that addresses this more realistically and prophetically? Think on that a bit, as I return to Paul addressing the Thessalonians in 2nd Thessalonians. THE DAY OF THE LORD Here the church at Thessalonica was troubled, as false prophets had entered into their midst and were preaching that the “Day of the Lord” had already happened. I call them “Ancient Preterist” who believed that all things had been fulfilled, and we were just waiting for Jesus to come back, except this church at Thessalonica understood the Day of the Lord, as judgment and wrath, not a sign of joy. Paul admonished them: 4 "So that we ourselves glory in you in the churches of God for your patience and faith in all your persecutions and tribulations that ye endure: 5 Which is a manifest token of the righteous judgment of God, that ye may be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which ye also suffer: 6 Seeing it is a righteous thing with God to recompense tribulation to them that trouble you; 7 And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, 8 In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: 9 Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power; 10 When he shall come to be glorified in his saints, and to be admired in all them that believe (because our testimony among you was believed) in that day." (2nd Thessalonians1:4-10) Paul re-teaches them what he had already told them concerning the coming “Day of the Lord”. Why were they fearful? They believed that they had missed the coming of the Lord for His Church and were found wanting and not fit to be removed from the earth and werewaiting for the judgment from God, which would mean they missed the greatest event in all of man-kind, next the crucifixion and resurrection of their Lord and ours, Jesus the Messiah. The removal, the snatching of the Church was being taught even in 1st century, but squashed by a “theocracy” that called themselves the “church of God” on earth, but were for power on earth, so the doctrine was hidden until modern times, as it was written for us, not them. Paul explains: 1 "Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him, 2 That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand. 3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first (translated as rapture, my explanation), and that man of sin berevealed, the son of perdition;" (2nd Thessalonians 2:1-3) Paul explains that this MUST happen first before the Great Day of the Lord, and His judgment upon earth. John reveals in Revelation that this man is revealed by a number: 16 And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: 17 And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name. 18 Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six. "(Revelation13:16-18) This is what Paul spoke of, and what John through the Revelation of Jesus Christ shared with us. He spoke again of this man. Going back to Paul, as he continues in chapter2 of 2nd Thessalonians, 4 "Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God. 5 Remember ye not, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things? 6 And now ye know what withholdeth that he might be revealed in his time. 7 For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way. 8 And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming: 9 Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, 10 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. 11 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: 12 That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness." (2nd Thessalonians 2:4-12) THE RUNNER UP TO THE ANTI-CHRIST No where in history after this time period has a man stood in the temple and claimed to be a god. Only once in the history of the nation of Israel had a man stood in thetemple and claimed to be a god, and it was many centuries before this verse was penned by Paul. What he is telling us, is that prophecy has duality, or will repeat itself in our time, and remember, these verses were written for us in modern end times, notjust of the church Paul and John wrote them to. Who was that man who stood in the temple and a fore runner of the modern Abomination who causeth Desolation, as Jesus spoke of in Matthew 24:15? His name was Antiochus Epiphanies as explained in my last message, and he made a statue of Zeus, with his face and put it in the Holy of Holys in the Temple of Jerusalem and proclaimed all must worship it on pain of death. He also sacrificed pigs on the altars of God, which were considered unclean. So this man defiled thetemple that led to the Maccabean War and the observance of Hanukkah, or cleansing of the temple. As Jesus prophesied, and as John and Paul revealed, it will happen again. Let's look at verse 7 of this last passage. We, as watchmen on the wall, have hammered this home many, many times. Students, who is “only HE who now letteth will let, untilHE be taken out of the way.”? If you said the Holy Spirit, you receive an A+, as by interpretation in context, it is the only thing that is holding back Satan the devil, having full sway on this earth and attempting full destruction of mankind, along withreceiving worship for himself. God will allow Satan complete ability to destroy mankind and allow men to follow their unrighteous ways. I like the NIV's interpretation of this same passage...let's look at it: (2nd Thessalonians 2:6-7 NIV), 6 "And now you know what is holding him back, so that he may be revealed at the proper time 7: for the secret power of lawlessness is already at work: but the ONE who now holds it back will continue to do so till HE is taken out of the way.” (emphasis mine). For me, this is a strong argument that the church has been removed out of the way, BEFORE the man of perdition, whose name equals 666, is revealed and stands in the templeof God, claiming to be God. God the Holy Spirit dwells each individual that belongs to Him and if the Holy Spirit is being withdrawn, then those He indwells will be leaving as well. Note that Jesus said that He would never leave us or forsake us, Hebrews 13:5,Matthew 28:20,hence He sent His Holy Spirit, as counselor, comforter, and guider of our walk with our Lord and Savior. If God's Holy Spirit is removed, based on the clear Word of our Lord, who cannot lie, we will be removed as well. Daniel chapter 9, and the Abomination that Causeth Desolation 26 "And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary;and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined. 27 And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreadingof abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate." (Daniel 9:26-27) I read where a national organized religion that split apart in the 80s, called the World Wide Church of God, interpreted that passage not to be the Anti-Christ, but theMessiah. Still in existence are splinter organizations who still adhere to this argument, in their attempt to discredit the concept that there will actually be an Anti-Christ, or argue against a 7 year tribulation. They are proponents of post-tribulation secondcoming and are anticipating, (no relishing) the idea of being slain in the Tribulation. When I read that explanation, I was aghast. I went to a website of theirs and pulled this text: “The most abused verse on the subject of the end times is Daniel 9:27, and it is a linchpin in the Pre-tribulation Rapture theory: 'Then he shall confirm a covenant withmany for one week; but in the middle of the week He shall bring an end to sacrifice and offering.' Unlike the Protestants, we believe that "he" in this verse refers to Messiah, not Antichrist, for the main subject of this section is Messiah. “Richard Ritenbaugh,Prophecy Watch." True, the beginning of the passage deals with Jesus Christ, but He did not cease the sacrifices in the temple. It continue unabated until 70 AD when the Temple was leveledto the ground by Roman soldiers of Tiberius. Then they go onto to say that: "In Isaiah 28:15, we protestants and "a covenant with death," say that the Antichrist makes a peace treaty for one week—seven years—with the Jews. But this makes no sense! Why would the Beast "destroy the city [Jerusalem] and the sanctuary" (Daniel 9:26), and "then . . . confirm a covenant . . . for one week" In this analogy, they deny the clear implication of Daniel's 70 week prophecy that was interrupted when Messiah was cut off in year 483 of the prophecy. That leaves thelast 7 years that must be completed for Israel to be saved and receive their Messiah. Obviously, they don't understand the time-line of history, or duality of prophecy. I think anyone, including this afore mentioned minister, is blinded by their ideology ofa failed organization that proposed that the second return of Jesus Christ would be in 1972, hence many members of this “denomination” sold all they had, took no social security, or started living in caves. I recall the cry of “flee in 73” as their mantra.Did it happen? No, much like Harold Camping's failed prophecy, false prophets are all within the camp of the religious and doomed to their predictions of when or how Jesus will return. Now is Mr. Ritenbaugh a false prophet? I am not singling him out, but itis a mindset of many post tribbers that this promise of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ is suspect and that we all are all full of hogwash is rampant in this denomination and others just to be fair. Others in this camp, propose that when Jesus comes in the clouds of heaven to receive His church, that we will be changed. Yes, but then they propose that we turn rightaround or make a sharp U-turn and come right back down to do battle with the enemies of God. They site Zechariah chapter 14, when Jesus' feet touch the Mount of Olives. I asked one minister I know, “are we going up to just saddle up?” coming with Jesus onhorses, dressed in linen, white and clean as Revelation chapter 19 shows? He had no answer. And what about the Marriage Supper of the Lamb? He proposed it was poetic or an allegory....say what? This same minister pooh-poohs the Jewish wedding feast. Needlessto say, we are not in agreement. Let's examine scripturally what Daniel was referring to and that a vast majority of theologians that are scripturally sound embrace. I take this from an online website toorganize the thought process of examining this passage, which I totally agree with: Here are the Sixty-nine (7 + 62) "WEEKS" that have already Happened.... "Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be SEVEN WEEKS , and THREESCOREand TWO WEEKS: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times."( Daniel 9:25) "And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary;and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined." ( Daniel 9:26) (note the caps of Prince, and prince, my emphasis. Two different “princes”. Prince of Glory, and prince of this world) Here is the ONE "WEEK" that Remains “ And he shall confirm the covenant with many for ONE WEEK : and in the MIDST of the WEEK he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreadingof abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.” (Daniel 9:27) Since God said he would deal with the Jews as a NATION for SEVENTY "WEEKS" and He promised to regather them nationally in the future in preparation for His Coming, then,God plans to deal with the NATION Israel in the future for ONE "WEEK" before He returns. To say that ONE WEEK of Daniel 9:27 has already happened (since God says He will regather Israel as a NATION) is to say there will be 71 WEEKS. To say that the week WILLNOT happen in the future is to say there are less than SEVENTY "WEEKS." Since we already know (from the 69 weeks that HAVE happened) that a "WEEK" is SEVEN YEARS, then, God must have a future dealing with the NATION Israel for SEVEN years.” As I have said many times, Israel is the door to end time prophecy and Jerusalem is the key to that door. The Seventieth Week of Daniel's prophecy is future and deals withISRAEL solely for their unbelief and to finish transgressions. Israel will embrace, finally, their Messiah and proclaim, “Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord”(Matthew 23:39.) Our Father and our Lord and Savior will purify Israel as silver is refined in the fire. 2 “But who may abide the day of his coming? and who shall stand when he appeareth? for he is like a refiner's fire, and like fullers' soap: 3 And he shall sit as a refiner and purifier of silver: and he shall purify the sons of Levi, and purge them as gold and silver, that they may offer unto the Lord an offeringin righteousness. 4 Then shall the offering of Judah and Jerusalem be pleasant unto the Lord, as in the days of old, and as in former years.” (Malachi 3:2-4) When Jesus spoke in Matthew 24, concerning the Abomination that Causeth Desolation, His message was pointed straight at Israel. I envision that they are only ones who willremain..(.if any Gentiles, they will be minor in comparison) when Jesus returns for divine judgment and take possession of His creation by the sword of His mouth, by speaking only the Words. He will destroy all rebellion, which by my belief will be mainlyunrepentant Gentiles, because the only ones who will listen to the 144,000 Evangelist from the 12 tribes of Israel, will be of the nation of Israel proper, or those scattered over the earth. Yes, some Gentiles will, but the focus is on restoring Israel. .How many will be blinded to the truth and take the mark of the Beast is conjecture on my part, but it is prophesied that God will send them a strong delusion...a lie........ 8 "And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming: 9 Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, 10 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. 11 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: 12 That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness."(2nd Thessalonians 2:8-12) Look around you, folks. Have you seen a time like this in your whole life. Socialism being pushed on the last stronghold of Christian beliefs. Invasion of illegal immigrants, the economy near totally caving in with inflation running rampant. Note the problems in the Middle East between Israel and Iran. Will we be seeing the Gog-Magog war, or will be even still be here? Lawlessness has grown exponentially in this country with defundthe police and riots and mayhem in many democrat run cities....Are we in the run-up to the coming of our Lord Jesus in the rapture? I believe the Anti-Christ will be revealed when the Gog-Magog war destroys 5/6 of this invading army and the AC confirms a covenantfor 7 years afterwards....But when he is revealed, the church won't be here as Paul told us in 2nd Thessalonians 2:7-11. We may have an idea of who the man is, and there are many possibilities, but we won't see him in the flesh. The return of our LORD andSavior, Jesus Christ is imminent and could happen before you finish reading this. That is how close, I believe, His appearing will be in the rapture. 25 "And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring; 26 Men's hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken. 27 And then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. 28 And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh." (Luke 21:25-28) GOD WILL SEND A STRONG DELUSION Note that if you are still here, then God will send you a strong delusion, A LIE, that you will believe because you want to. Your mind will have no protection, as the HolySpirit is GONE, VANISHED, right along with His Church. Satan will have full sway, full unimpeded powers to deceive the human mind. Each of those left will embrace the false god of this world, known as the Anti-Christ, no matter what another religion mightfeed you. So as a watchman on the wall, I have given you witness of four of the major figures in your bible, John, Paul, Daniel, and the Master, Jesus our Messiah. I report, you decide. ARE YOU READY TO MEET THE LORD IN THE AIR? Understand, that I am not preaching to scare you, but to warn you. There is coming a day when salvation will be mostly for the Jewish people, as the Church Age has suddenlyended for you, and you have been caught flat footed. You were not ready, and Jesus has come, as He said He would. You may or may not believe what just happened, but if you do, it will cost you your head when you won't bow to the AC, as it was in the time ofKing Nebuchadnezzer and his golden idol spoken of in Daniel chp. 3. Won't you make yourself ready. Wanna know how? 16 'For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.” (John 3:16-18) Then while we have little time left, witness to all you know... 8 But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach; 9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.” (Romans 10:8-11) Email me after reading John 3:16 then all of the Gospel of John, just who this man Jesus was, and IS....the great I AM, that I AM...Jehovah God. Repent for today is theday of salvation. VISIT: PROPHECY WATCHER WEEKLY NEWS: HTTP://PROPHECY-WATCHER-WEEKLY-NEWS.BLOGSPOT.COM

11 Times the Old Testament Predicts Jesus' Birth and Death AND MORE

11 Times the Old Testament Predicts Jesus' Birth and Death Clarence L. Haynes Jr. One of the great realities of Scripture is the prophetic nature of the Bible. There are predictions made in Scripture that have already come true, and there are many that we are waiting to come true – for example the second coming of Jesus Christ. Yet, before he comes the second timehe had to come the first time. The prediction of Jesus' first coming was foretold all throughout the Old Testament. You might be wondering where does the Old Testament predict Jesus’ birth and death? I am glad you asked because we are going to look at some of these predictions. Old Testament Prophecies of Jesus Before we dive in and answer the question of where the Old Testament predicts Jesus’ birth and death, let’s take a moment to answer another question: How can you trust biblical prophecy? The answer is found in the very Scripture itself: “You may say to yourselves, ‘How can we know when a message has not been spoken by the Lord?’ If what a prophet proclaims in the name of the Lord does not take place or come true, that is a message the Lord has not spoken. That prophet has spoken presumptuously,so do not be alarmed” (Deuteronomy 18:21-22). You can test the prophetic accuracy of Scripture by asking this one question: Did it come to pass? This is really the only way to know if something that is prophesied is true or not. Let’s consider some of these prophecies from the Old Testament. Let's look at 11 places where the Old Testament accurately predicts Jesus’ birth and death. In answering the question of where the Old Testament predict Jesus’ birth and death, I want to divide the listings into two categories. We will first start with thosepointing to his birth, and then those pointing to his death. Old Testament Predictions of Jesus' Birth 1. Genesis 3:15 “And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel.” From the very beginning, right after Adam and Eve disobeyed God, he gave indication that a savior would be coming from the seed of the woman, Eve. God revealed right away that this seed would be the one that would crush the head of the serpent. We know thatseed pointed to Jesus. Moses is credited as the author of the book of Genesis. The time of his writing isn’t one hundred percent certain, but is estimated to be about 1500 years before Christ was born. 2. Genesis 12:3 “I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.” In this verse, God is making a promise to Abraham that he would make him into a great nation. As part of that promise he tells him that all people on earth will be blessed through you. This blessing of all mankind points to the one who would redeem peoplesfrom every tribe and tongue on the face of the earth. The blessing of salvation was for all who would believe. 3. Isaiah 7:14 “Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel.” This Scripture points to the manner in which he will born, and also to one of the names given to Christ: Immanuel, meaning God with us. This was pointing to both his human birth and his divine nature. This was written over 700 years before Christ was born. 4. Micah 5:2 “But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for me one who will be ruler over Israel, whose origins are from of old, from ancient times.” We know Jesus was born in Bethlehem and this Scripture tells us in advance the place Jesus would be born. This prophecy was written by Micah approximately 800 years before Christ was born. 5. Hosea 11:1 “When Israel was a child, I loved him, and out of Egypt I called my son.” This prophecy was written by Hosea also approximately 800 years before Christ was born. This verse looks backward and forward. Remember the Israelites were slaves in Egypt when God brought them out. Also remember that Joseph and Mary fled to Egypt with thebaby Jesus to avoid the slaughter by Herod. This verse can apply to both of those situations. However, it was referred to by Matthew in his writings (Matthew2:14-15). Old Testament Predictions of Jesus' Death One place we can turn to that accurately predicts Christ’s death is Psalm 22. I will highlight a few verses from this Psalm. 6. Psalm 22:1 “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” 7. Psalm 22:7-8 “All who see me mock me; they hurl insults, shaking their heads. ‘He trusts in the Lord,’ they say, ‘let the Lord rescue him. Let him deliver him, since he delights in him.’” 8. Psalm 22:16-18 “Dogs surround me, a pack of villains encircles me; they pierce my hands and my feet. All my bones are on display; people stare and gloat over me. They divide my clothes among them and cast lots for my garment.” This Psalm was written by David approximately 1000 years before Christ came. I just want to highlight within this Psalm the many references to the actual crucifixion of Christ. I will include the New Testament reference for each of these: •Jesus cried out “My God, my God why have you forsaken me?” (Matthew 27:46, Mark 15:34) •They mocked and hurled insults shaking their heads at Jesus (Matthew 27:39, Mark 15:29) •They shouted “He trusts in the Lord, let the Lord save him” (Matthew 27:41-43) •They nailed him to a cross piercing his hand and feet (Matthew 27:35) •They divided his clothes and cast lots for them (Matthew 27:35, Mark 15:24, Luke 23:34) The accuracy and specific nature of David’s prophecy has caused some skeptics to believe it was written after the crucifixion had already taken place. But the evidence shows this was written about 1000 years before. If someone should ever ask you where theOld Testament predicts Jesus birth and death, this Psalm should be included in the conversation. Especially if you are talking about his death. Another great passage to turn to is Isaiah 53. The whole chapter refers to Christ, but I want to highlight a few verses. 9. Isaiah 53:5 “But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.” 10. Isaiah 53:7 “He was oppressed and afflicted, yet he did not open his mouth; he was led like a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before its shearers is silent, so he did not open his mouth.” 11. Isaiah 53:9 “He was assigned a grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death, though he had done no violence, nor was any deceit in his mouth.” Again, when you read the scriptures, it is amazing how accurate and reliable Bible prophecies are. If you consider the test of the truth of prophecy, mentioned in Deuteronomy, then the Bible passes with flying colors. What Does All This Mean? As we have looked back to consider Old Testament prophecies, there is one thing I want you to take away from all this. The Bible can be trusted. It is the living active word of God and you can depend on what God has spoken in his word. What has been predictedhas either already come to pass or it will. It’s just a matter of time. I want to leave you with two truths about Scripture that Jesus stated about the word of God: “For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished” (Matthew5:18). everything is accomplished” (Matthew 5:18). “Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away” (Matthew 24:35). When it is all said and done and every prophecy has been fulfilled, God’s word will still be standing. You can count on that. Further Reading What Are the Prophecies about Jesus? The Old Testament prophets went to great lengths to describe the Messiah’s life, death, and victorious resurrection. Jesus of Nazareth fulfilled these prophecies in such accurate detail a millennium later that there can be no doubt that He was that promisedMessiah. The Old Testament contains over 300 prophecies about a future Messiah, a savior anointed by God to deliver His people from oppression. The New Testament trumpets the fulfillment of those propheciesthrough the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus of Nazareth. Jesus Himself revealed that He was the promised Messiah (John 4:25-26). Further, the gospels show how Jesus fulfilled the messianic prophecies and ultimately delivered humanity from the oppression of death through the promise of eternal salvation (John3:16). Below is a discussion of numerous messianic prophesies fulfilled by Jesus. What Are the Prophecies about the Messiah’s Birth? The Old Testament described the awaited Messiah’s birth in detail. In particular, the prophets foretold that the Savior would be born of a woman and would defeat Satan to redeem humanity for Satan’s deception of our First Parents (Genesis3:15). Further, the Savior would come from the line of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob (Genesis 12:3; 17:19; Numbers 24:17), and the tribe of Judah (Genesis 49:10). Scripture also revealed that the Messiah would be born in Bethlehem (Micah 5:2) to a virgin who would call Him Immanuel(Isaiah 7:14). The Messiah would be an heir to King David’s throne and would reign for eternity (2Samuel 7:12-13). Jesus’ Birth Fulfils the Prophecies about the Messiah’s Birth Jesus of Nazareth redeemed the Fall of Adam as prophesied because Jesus was born of a woman and destroyed the Devil’s work by defeating death through His glorious Resurrection (1John 3:8). Jesus also fulfilled the prophecies about the Savior’s lineage, as He is a direct descendant of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and the tribe of Judah (Matthew1:1-16). Moreover, as predicted, Jesus was born to a virgin in the town of Bethlehem (Luke 1:27; 2:4-7). In addition,Jesus is an heir to King David’s throne through Christ’s earthly father Joseph (Matthew 1:6-16), andas the King of Kings, Jesus’ reign will last forever (Luke 1:33). Also, Jesus was indeed called Immanuel. The name Immanuel means “God with us” and perfectly describes Jesus’ nature as God made flesh to dwell among us (John1:1, 14). Notably, Isaiah declared that the Messiah would be called by many names in addition to Immanuel, such as: “Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace” (Isaiah 9:6). What Are the Prophecies about the Messiah’s Early Life? The Old Testament revealed that the Messiah would spend time in Egypt during His youth and would then leave Egypt (Hosea11:1). The prophecies also foretold of a messenger in the wilderness who’d prepare the way for the Messiah so that the glory of God would be revealed (Isaiah40:3-5). Jesus’ Early Life Fulfils the Prophecies about the Messiah’s Early Life As prophesied, Jesus spent His early years in Egypt to escape the Massacre of the Innocents perpetrated by King Herod (Matthew2:13-15). Also as predicted, once Herod died, Jesus and His family left Egypt and settled in Nazareth (Matthew2:19-23). The foreshadowed messenger in the wilderness preparing the way for the Lord was John the Baptist, who prepared the Messiah’s way by preaching a message of baptism and repentance of sins (Matthew3:1-6). John the Baptist alluded to Jesus when he told his followers that he baptized with water but that there would be “one who is more powerful” who would baptize with the Holy Spirit and fire (Matthew3:11). John then baptized Jesus and a voice from heaven revealed that Jesus was God’s son (Matthew3:13-17). Matthew 3:13-17). What Are the Prophecies about the Messiah’s Ministry? The messianic prophecies told us that Galilee would be chosen among the nations to see “a great light,” a male child born to remove the darkness (Isaiah9:1-6). The Messiah was foretold to preach about repentance (Isaiah 30:15) and be a gentle redeemerwho would uphold justice and heal the broken (Isaiah 42:1-4; 61:1-2). The Savior would also speak in parablesthat would fall on deaf ears (Psalm 78:2-4; Isaiah 6:9-10) and perform many miracles (Isaiah 35:5-6). The prophecies further described the Deliverer as: A faithful priest who would do God’s will (1 Samuel 2:35);a prophet selected from among the Israelites (Deuteronomy 18:15); and a humble king who wouldride atop a donkey toward welcoming crowds (Zechariah 9:9). Despite this peaceful and healing description of the coming Messiah, the prophets also asserted that the Messiah would be rejected by His own people (Psalm69:8) but embraced by the Gentiles (Isaiah 11:10). Last, prophecy warned that rulers would plot to killthe Messiah (Psalm 31:13). Jesus’ Ministry Fulfils the Prophecies about the Messiah’s Ministry In fulfillment of Scripture, Jesus’ ministry began in Galilee, where Jesus was the “great light” that dispelled the darkness by preaching a life of repentance (Matthew4:12-17). Moreover, Jesus spoke in parables that confounded many (Matthew 13:10-15, 34-35) andperformed numerous miracles (Matthew 11:2-5). Jesus also fulfilled the messianic prophecies by serving as: The faithful priest who atoned for the sins of others through His human death and divine resurrection (Hebrews2:17); the Jewish prophet who was rejected by His own people (Matthew 13:54-58); and the humbleking who entered Jerusalem atop a donkey and was welcomed by cheering crowds (Matthew 21:1-9). Furthermore, the prophecy that everyone could be co-heirs of God’s Kingdom is confirmed by the diversity of Jesus’s followers (John12:18-21). Last, the revelation that Jesus would be scorned to the point of death was realized when the rulers of Israel plotted to have Him killed (Matthew27:1). What Are the Prophecies about the Messiah’s Betrayal? The prophets warned that someone who had broken bread with the Messiah (Psalm 41:9) would betray Him for30 pieces of silver, which would later be used to buy a potter’s field (Zechariah 11:12-13).Upon His betrayal, the Messiah’s closest friends would flee from him (Psalm 31:11). Jesus Was Betrayed in the Manner Prophesized As predicted, Jesus was betrayed by the Apostle Judas Iscariot for 30 pieces of silver (Matthew 26:14-16;47-50). That blood money was later used to buy a potter’s field (Matthew 27:3-10). Also, after Judas’sbetrayal, Jesus’ other disciples “deserted him and fled” (Mark 14:50). What Are the Prophecies about the Messiah’s Death? Isaiah describes how the Messiah would remain silent in the face of false accusations and would be beaten, mocked, and spat upon (Isaiah53:7; Isaiah 50:6). The Savior would also be “pierced for our transgressions” so that by His wounds we’d be healed (Isaiah53:5). The prophet Daniel likewise revealed that the “Anointed One will be put to death and will have nothing” (Daniel9:26). King David further detailed the Messiah’s death. The Psalmist presaged that the Messiah’s hands and feet would be pierced but His bones would not be broken (Psalm22:16-17; 34:20). The Savior would die among criminals (Isaiah 53:9), and people would cast lots for Hisclothing (Psalm 22:18). Also, onlookers would taunt the Anointed One by telling Him to ask the Lord He spokeof so often to rescue Him (Psalm 22:8). Jesus Died in the Manner Prophesized Anyone familiar with Jesus’ Passion knows that He fulfilled the prophecies of the Messiah’s death down to the last agonizing detail. Specifically, Jesus remained silent in the face of false accusations, and was beaten, mocked, and spat upon before His crucifixion(Mark 14:57-61; 15:16-20). Further, the Savior’s hands and feet were pierced by nails at His crucifixion, but his bones weren’t broken (Luke24:39-40; John 20:24-27; John 19:33-37). As foretold, two criminals were crucified beside Jesus (Mark 15:27-28), and Roman soldierscast lots for His garments (John 19:23-24). Last, the prediction of unyielding scorn came to pass whenonlookers taunted the Crucified Christ by saying that if He was the Chosen One, He should save Himself (Luke 23:35). What Are the Prophecies about the Messiah’s Resurrection? King David foreshadowed the Messiah’s resurrection by proclaiming that God would not abandon the Messiah to the realm of the dead or let the Messiah’s body see decay (Psalm16:10). David also wrote that the Messiah would ascend to Heaven and sit at God’s right hand (Psalm 110:1). Isaiah further divined that the Messiah’s death would serve as an ultimate offering for sin so that God’s people could be redeemed (Isaiah53:5-12). The Messiah’s agony would be rewarded, however, in that He’d conquer death in the end (Isaiah25:7-8) and “see the light of life and be satisfied” (Isaiah 53:11). Jesus Was Resurrected in the Manner Prophesied As foretold, Jesus conquered death by gloriously rising from the dead (Matthew 28:5-10). Jesus thenappeared to many of His disciples (Matthew 28:16-17) who later testified that the Messiah had risen, that His body was without decay, and that He had ascended into Heaven to sit at the right hand of God, as prophesied (Acts2:24-36). Last, Jesus’s death and Resurrection fulfilled Scripture in that He was the ultimate sacrifice that delivered humanity from death by offering us the path to eternal life (1Corinthians 15:54). What Does This Mean? The Old Testament prophets went to great lengths to describe the Messiah’s life, death, and victorious resurrection. Jesus of Nazareth fulfilled these prophecies in such accurate detail a millennium later that there can be no doubt that He was that promisedMessiah. 5 Things Most of Us Misunderstand about Jesus Mark E. Moore After teaching the life of Christ at the collegiate level for more than two decades, I am continually struck by how little I know about Jesus of Nazareth. He is constantly above and beyond our expectations. Here are a few things that surprise many peopleabout him when viewed against the backdrop of our Western expectations. 1. Christ Is His Title, Not His Last Name Ok, so you likely already knew that. But did you know that the term Christ is not a claim to deity but an earthly political title roughly equivalent to King? That’s why Mark’s gospel opened by identifying Jesus as Christ (King) for the Jews and as the “sonof God” (Emperor) for the Romans. Jesus’s intention, as Messiah, was to be the new King David who would fulfill the regal role as God’s vassal on earth. That’s why his preaching hovered around the “kingdom of God.” We tend to think of Jesus as a religious figure, which he is, but he also saw himself as a political ruler. The main differenceis that his leadership was not limited to a single nation but included every tongue, tribe, and nation, and both the spiritual and earthly realms. 2. Jesus Is Lord, Not Just Savior Jesus didn’t come merely to save us from our sins but also to establish a kingdom over which he is sovereign. It seems to me that our emphasis on salvation by grace alone (which is correct) has made us hesitant to speak boldly about the claims of Christ over our morality, our money, and our relationships. Yet it is impossible to speak of Jesus merely as Savior without recognizing him as Lord. Hisimperatives are commands to be obeyed, not just suggestions we get to vote on. 3. Jesus was Not Pro-family Jesus prioritized children. He prioritized widows. He prioritized the poor and the outcast. But most of what he said about the nuclear family was not positive. For example, he expected to divide families: “Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace tothe earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I have come to turn ‘a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law—a man’s enemies will be the members of his own household’” (Matthew10:34–36 NIV). That was certainly true of his own family. At one point, they were so off-put by his companions that they came for an intervention. When they knocked at the door, Jesus rejected them with these words: “‘Who are my mother and my brothers?’ he asked. Then he looked at those seated in a circle around him and said, ‘Here are my mother and my brothers! Whoever does God’s will is my brother and sister and mother’” (Mark3:33–35 NIV). Nonetheless, families who prioritize Jesus have stronger bonds and better relationships even though Jesus never prioritized biological families. 4. Jesus Did Not Welcome Outsiders Only once did Jesus go out of his way for a foreigner. It was a Samaritan woman (John 4). There are others he was kind to or healed, such as theSyro-Phoenician woman with a demonized daughter, the centurion of Capernaum, and the Greeks in the Temple of Jerusalem. But they came to him, not he to them. Nevertheless, Jesus always intended to expand the kingdom of God on a global scale. His reworking of ethics made Christianity innately applicable to any culture or people group. For example, he proved that cleanness was more contagious than uncleanness bytouching a leper. By prioritizing the sick and sinners, he established a pattern of ignoring or deliberately breaking barriers. That’s why he declared all foods clean so that our tables would be open to all. And after his resurrection, his five great commissionsexplicitly stated his plan for outward expansion. One simply cannot claim to be a Christ-follower and be ethnically, economically, or culturally focused on one’s own experience and surroundings. 5. Jesus’s Cross Is Yours Most of the talk about a cross in the Gospels refers to Jesus’s cross. However, nearly 1/3 of the cross talk is about our cross. In fact, the two are inextricably intertwined. Here’s what Jesus said immediately after predicting his death for the first time: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it” Matthew 16:24–25 (NIV).Jesus’s death saved sinners from their sin; ours saves society from itself. Part of the current malaise of Christianity is our tendency to defeat our enemies rather than suffer for them. When we take up our cross and follow Jesus,we are more winsome and powerful in a hostile world. 51 Old Testament Prophecies Fulfilled In Jesus Christ DownloadWord Version DownloadPDF Version Prophecy Description Fulfillment 1.
