 10 Beautiful, True Things God Says about You Jeannie Myers Author Updated December 13, 2023 The Book of Ephesians is packed full of truth about your identity in Christ. God knows you inside and out (Psalm 139:1-4). He is not deceived by appearances (1 Samuel 16:7). He cannot lie (Titus 1:2). What God says about you in His Word is unvarnished, rock-solidfact. I Am Beloved “But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved” (Ephesians 2:4-5). God’s love for you is the reason He saved you. Even when you were dead in sin, He loved you so much that He sacrificed His own Son to bring you to life. You may feel rejected and despised, but the truth is that you are dearly loved. “...I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filledto the measure of all the fullness of God” (Ephesians 3:17b-19). God does not merely tolerate you, like a family member you care about but with whom you’d rather not spend large quantities of time. God loves you deeply and passionately and intimately. His love for you is so vast that it can hardly be described or evenfully known. “Follow God’s example, therefore, as dearly loved children, and walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God” (Ephesians5:1-2). 2. I Am a Masterpiece “For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do” (Ephesians 2:10). You were created for a purpose. God has good work for you to do, and He custom-made you for that work. It’s awfully tempting to measure ourselves against the people around us or the images in the media, but that kind of comparison will always lead to discouragement.You were not made to be like any of those other people, real or airbrushed. You were uniquely designed by the Creator of waterfalls and sunsets, who is too talented an Artist to paint copies of the same thing over and over. You may feel defective, but God handcrafted you just the way He wanted you to be. “For You created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I Am Chosen “For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight” (Ephesians 1:4). What a thought! Before the earth was formed, God had already selected you. He knew what your life would look like (Psalm 139:16),He knew the kind of person you would be (Jeremiah 1:5), and He picked you. You may feel rejected or overlooked, but the King of the universehas chosen you as His own. “But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light” (1Peter 2:9). 4. I Am Holy “For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight” (Ephesians 1:4). God did not choose you because He looked through time and saw that you would be holy. The word “holy” means pure, set apart, sacred. God knew that you would be sinful and entangled in the things of the world. He chose you because He loved you and wantedto make you holy. “Once you were alienated from God and were enemies in your minds because of your evil behavior. But now he has reconciled you by Christ’s physical body through death to present you holy in his sight, without blemish and free from accusation....” (Colossians 1:21-22). You are holy now, in the present tense, today. You may feel hopeless or common, but in this very moment, God proclaims you holy, blameless, sacred. “Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience” (Colossians 3:12). Photo credit: ©Getty Images/masterzphotois 5. I Am Forgiven “In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace” (Ephesians 1:7). During the 33 years He lived on earth, Jesus’ every thought was pure. Every word He spoke was true. His every deed was just and loving (Hebrews4:15). This is not surprising. Jesus lived on earth the way He has throughout eternity. He has always been holy, and He always will be. What is astonishing is that He traded His goodness for your sin (2Corinthians 5:21) and suffered the death you deserved. The blameless One publicly shamed, tortured, and executed as a criminal! “When you were dead in your sins... God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins, having canceled the charge... which stood against us and condemned us; he has taken it away, nailing it to the cross. And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.” (from Colossians 2:13-15) Jesus overcame the power of sin and death when He rose victorious from the grave. Satan no longer has any claim on you. He will relentlessly accuse you, shaming you with all your sins and failures in an attempt to dishearten and immobilize you. But he isno longer your master. You don’t have to listen to him. Listen to the One True and Living God, who says that Jesus already paid for those sins. They are gone. You may feel shameful and dirty, but you are washed and clean, fully reconciled to God. “...Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless” (Ephesians 5:25b-27). I Am a New Creation “You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousnessand holiness” (Ephesians 4:22-24). When Jesus traded you for your sin, what you received in exchange was His good life. The old you was crucified (Romans 6:6). You now havea new life in Christ. Throw off the filthy rags of your old life and walk in freedom and joy, clothed in the righteousness of Christ. You may feel weighed down by your past, but the truth is that you have been given a clean slate, a fresh start. “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” (2 Corinthians 5:17). 7. I Am Redeemed “In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace” (Ephesians 1:7). The Greek word for redemption here means “purchased from the slave market of sin,” and “totally set free.” Before Jesus rescued you, you were a slave of Satan, bound to keep serving him by sinning and bound to join him in his eternal doom (John8:34-36). Christ rescued us by paying our ransom price in full. The heavy chains dropped from our wrists and ankles and neck, and He led us from Satan’s dank, dark workhouse out into the sunshine and fresh air. You may feel trapped in fear or tied to that sinful habityou just cannot seem to break, but the truth is that Jesus Christ has set you free. ”For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins” (Colossians1:13-14). I Am Worth More Than Gold “In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace” (Ephesians 1:7). It has been said that you can tell how much you are worth by the price that has been paid for you. You were bought with the blood of the Son of God. All the money and gold and jewels in the world could not have paid your ransom. We often look at the price of something we want and choose not to buy it. We decide it’s too expensive. Jesus knew what it would cost Him to redeem you, and He chose to pay that price. You may feel insignificant or even worthless, but Jesus declared yourvalue when He paid for you with His blood. “For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your ancestors, but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect” (1Peter 1:18-19). 9. I Am a Child of the King “In love he predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will—to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the One he loves” (Eph1:4b-6). God did not rescue you and send you on your way. He brought you into His family, adopting you as His own (John 1:12). You may feel unlovedand alone, but you are the treasured child of the King of Kings. “See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! I Am an Heir of God “And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession—to the praise of his glory” (Ephesians1:13-14). When God adopted you, He granted you the full rights of one of His children. It’s staggering but true—you are now a sibling and co-heir of Jesus. Jesus, the Son of God, heir of all things (Romans 8:17 and 29). The wonder of it! Your inheritance, as God’s child, is His kingdom and everlasting life in which to enjoy it with Him (Matthew 25:34, Titus 3:7). You may feel like a nobody, but you are heir to the kingdom of God and eternal life with the One who loves you most. “Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away … And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them … He will wipe every tear from their eyes.There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away. He who was seated on the throne said, ‘I am making everything new! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End … Those who are victorious willinherit all this, and I will be their God and they will be my children’” (Revelation 21:1-7). Who Are You? You are a masterpiece of the Creator of the universe, chosen by Him before time began to be made holy. You are so precious to Jesus that He died to pay your ransom and give you a new life.
