Russia Stepping Up Military Activity
Ukraine has accused Russia of stepping up military activity in the annexed territory of Crimea. Andriy Lysenko, a spokesman for the Ukrainian military, said that Ukrainian military intelligence reported Russian units conducting surveillance with drones from Crimea. He said three Russian military helicopters have violated Ukrainian airspace from the territory. According to NATO, Russia has already massed about 20,000 combat-ready troops along Ukraine's border. U.S. Reconnaissance Flights
President Barack Obama has authorized U.S. reconnaissance flights over Syria. The Syrian government said that it's ready to accept support from the United States and others working under the UN umbrella to fight "terrorists". The Islamic extremist group wrested the Al-Tabqa air base from Syrian military on Sunday. Syrian state television reported that the Syrian military had evacuated the air base to regroup and was still carrying out strikes against ISIS fighters in the area.

Abbas to Submit Proposal
Palestinian Authority (PA) Chairman Mahmoud Abbas said he intends to submit a "surprising" diplomatic solution to the "Palestinian issue" to U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry next week. The PA chairman added that his "surprise" will not consist of a declaration of war against Israel. The U.S. will likely not receive the proposal warmly, but it enjoys wide Arab support according to Abbas, who said he would insist on its implementation.
