Nearing Midnight: Togarmah Roots Showing - Terry James - http://www.raptureready.com/rap16.html
Hal Lindsey (The Late, Great Planet Earth), among other prophecy scholars, through their study, find present-day Turkey to be sitting on geographical territory that comprised ancient Togarmah. We have looked, together, at this prophecy on numerous occasions. Togarmah is found in the following passages of Ezekiel's famous prophecy:
Son of man, set thy face against Gog, the land of Magog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal, and prophesy against him, And say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold I am against thee, O Gog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal: And I will turn thee back, and put hooks into thy jaws, and I will bring thee forth, and all thine army, horses and horsemen, all of them clothed with all sorts of armour, even a great company with bucklers and shields, all of them handling swords: Persia, Ethiopia, and Libya with them; all of them with shield and helmet: Gomer, and all his bands; the house of Togarmah of the north quarters, and all his bands: and many people with thee. (Ezekiel 38:2-8)
This, of course, is a battle that will change the complexion of the world in terms of aggression. God's Word, through Ezekiel the prophet, foretells that all but one-sixth of these forces that attack Israel will be wiped out-by God, Himself. That will, effectively, eliminate Islam for sure. The results will, it appears, clear the way for Antichrist to rise fully to power.
Movement this prophetic region has made toward fulfillment of this, one of the most profound of the end-of-the-age prophecies found in Scripture, is nothing short of phenomenal.
I wrote the following in 2006:
Turkey was a solid citizen, in friendly standing with the west, not long ago. Secularists had control of the reins of government, despite a history of majority Islamist religionists in the region. This caused many Bible prophecy students to wonder what might happen to swing Turkey (Togarmah) into the Gog-Magog coalition configuration Ezekiel foretold.
I wrote further at the time:
Islamics of Turkey are said to be 60 percent in favor of Muslim-run government, rather than secularist-run government. The fanatic Islamics within that nation certainly must recognize weakness within western powers, made evident by the retreat in Iraq, and in more or less giving in to Iran's nuclear development. Muslim fanatics will doubtless step up their fomenting violence and opposition against the present government officials, who looked toward Europe rather than toward the Islamic tyrants of the Middle East.
Turkey, occupying at least part of ancient Togarmah, seems to be coming into focus as yet another of the end time players in the coming Gog-Magog attack against an increasingly isolated Israel. ("Togarmah/Turkey Coming into Focus," Nearing Midnight, www.raptureready.com, 2006)
Turkey, at the time, was in turmoil, and the beginning of this turn away from the West was in view. A report at the time framed the tenuous geopolitical quandary of Turkey and its look eastward.
[There is a question about] the deep divide that has festered within Turkish society since the foundation of the modern state. Should Turkey face eastward, toward its Muslim neighbors, or westward, toward Europe?Turkey-a democratic Muslim country with a rigidly secular state-is at a pivot point. It is trying to navigate between the forces that want to pull it closer to Islam and the institutions that safeguard its secularism. Turkey's pro-Islamic government is constrained by rules dictating secularism established by Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, Turkey's revered founder. (Sabrina Tavernise, "Allure of Islam Signals a Shift within Turkey," New York Times, November 28, 2006)
Turkey's secularist government-for that matter, most of its ties with Western thought-is gone in August of 2014. The schism, if there was any doubt of Turkey moving totally eastward, was made crystal clear in the rift that erupted the past week. The rip in the fabric of whatever shred of diplomatic cloth holding together Turkey and Western influence revolves around the most significant prophetic signal of our time. Israel and its position as focal point of world ire.
Israel's defense of its people by taking it to the Hamas aggressors, in which Israel is seen as murdering innocent women and children-despite the fact that Israel is the one attacked and Hamas fires from schools, hospitals, and other centers of civilian life, is the cause of Turkey's move. The following report more or less tells the story:
Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan accused Israel on Sunday of deliberately killing Palestinian mothers and warned it would "drown in the blood it sheds."...
Addressing hundreds of thousands of supporters at his biggest rally so far ahead of the Aug. 10 election, Erdogan again likened Israel's actions to those of Hitler, comments that have already led Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to accuse him of anti-Semitism and drawn rebuke from Washington. (:Dasha Afanasieva and Humeyra, Reuters, "Turkey's Erdogan Lashes Out at Israel at Election Rally")
There should be no doubt-in my view, at least-that we are witnessing yet another stark development in the setting of the end-time stage.
