Francis Prays in Turkey Mosque
Pope Francis stood for two minutes of silent prayer facing east in one of Turkey's most important Islamic mosques. His head bowed, eyes closed and hands clasped in front of him, Pope Francis prayed alongside the Grand Mufti of Istanbul, Rahmi Yaran. "May God accept it," Yaran told the Pope of their prayer. Read More >

The World's First E-Resident
During a ceremony in the Estonian capital of Tallinn, Edward Lucas became the world's first e-resident. E-residency is not a path to citizenship, but form of supranational digital identity. Lucas now has a digital signature valid anywhere in the EU, or in any other country which uses electronic authentication. Anyone in the world over age 18 can apply for Estonian e-residency. Estonian officials have set...

U.S. Military Warned of Possible Attacks
The U.S. government obtained intelligence that Islamic State militants were targeting the United States within its borders. A joint intelligence bulletin sent by the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security has urged members of the military to erase from their online social media accounts anything that would draw attention from "violent extremists" or reveal service members' identity.

The transition ceremony highlighted the increasing power of Poland within the 28-nation EU, and the bloc's ongoing shift from a western European economic association to a strong political body inviting people from Britain to the borders of Russia.

Finnish Church Votes for Same-Sex Marriage
Thousands of people have resigned from the Lutheran Church in Finland, after the nation's parliament approved a same-sex marriage law. The resignation frees the individuals from obligatory church membership taxes, which is where the majority of the Lutheran Church's income comes from. After the vote the Archbishop of Turku and Finland, Kari Makinen said, "I rejoice with my whole heart for them and with them."

Lima Conference Set to 'Write History'
At the opening of the climate conference in Lima, Peru, a senior UN official warned that the International Community "must write history" on climate action and build momentum towards a new universal agreement to be adopted in 2015. "We must act with urgency," said Christiana Figueres, the Executive Secretary of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

Jordan Pushing for UN Resolution
Jordan has launched a bid to win backing for UN resolution on a final Israeli-Palestinian settlement that could be presented to the Security Council in the coming weeks. If a consensus can be reached, a draft resolution could be presented to the council later this month or in January. The PA has been pushing for a draft resolution that calls for ending the "Israeli occupation" by November 2016.
