Islamic Jihad Preparing to Go "Another Level" Against Israel - By Lea Speyer -

"The wise fear the LORD and shun evil, but a fool is hotheaded and yet feels secure." (Proverbs 14:16)

In a tunnel deep underground the Gaza Strip, masked terrorists from Islamic Jihad are preparing for their next war with Israel.

Following the 50-day summer war with Israel, Islamic Jihad, Hamas and other Gaza-based terror groups are licking their wounds.

The Al-Quds Brigades, the armed wing of Islamic Jihad, lost 123 terrorists in the fighting with Israel and fired some 3,300 rockets into the Jewish state. Gaza terrorists attempted to show their might by firing the Iranian made Fajr 5 missile, which has the ability to reach Tel Aviv and northern Israel.

Israeli intelligence are keeping a close eye on the activities of the Gaza terror groups. Days after the announcement of a ceasefire with Israel, Hamas and Islamic Jihad boasted that they were already preparing for the next round of conflict with Israel.

"We're at our highest level of alert to counter any attack," senior commander Abu al-Bara told AFP from one of the group's terror tunnels. "We're used to the occupation (Israel) breaking its ceasefires."

"What doesn't kill us makes us stronger. We're gathering all our strength since it's a war that never ends. We're ready to go to another level against the Zionist occupation and carry out actions we've never done before," he said

While Islamic Jihad refuses to specify the number of fighters currently aligned with the terror group, conservative estimates put the number between 10,000 and 15,000,

Israel's ground invasion into Gaza greatly reduced the number of fighters and rockets both Hamas and Islamic Jihad possess. However, the terror groups are quickly making up for what they lost.

AFP reporters were allowed access into an Islamic Jihad tunnel network for the first time. Blindfolded while being transported to its entrance, once inside the tunnels are akin to a mini city, filled with interconnecting concrete passages and even "streets" to help the terrorists navigate the vast network.

One of the "streets" was named after Abu Bakr al-Sadiq, the first Islamic caliph after the death of the Prophet Mohammed.

An Islamic Jihad terrorist said that the group's tunnels were of "different lengths, some with several entrances."

Gaza terror groups have successfully used the interconnected tunnel network to smuggle in illegal supplies, usually from Egypt, to build weaponry and carry out attacks against Israel. During Operation Protective Edge, the IDF said it had demolished majority of terror tunnels inside Gaza, but a few unknown ones remained active.

"Hamas and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad have openly declared that they are rebuilding tunnels and testing rockets and other things like that," IDF spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Peter Lerner told AFP.

"They've been siphoning off from the civilians of Gaza forever," he said, confirming previous reports of the terror groups usual practice of utilizing humanitarian goods shipped into Gaza from Israel for terror purposes.

While Islamic Jihad terrorists are preparing for their underground war with Israel, above ground the group is training its young recruits to die in the battle of jihad.

In the southern Gazan city of Khan Yunis, the "School of the Mujahedin" is training some 200 new recruits by having them duck live fire, jump through flaming hoops, and practice chanting, "Death to Israel! Death to America!"

Abu Ahmed, the instructor at the terror training camp, says that the young men are going through "very advanced training."

"Their training lasts between 36 days and six months, before they go to a specialized unit like explosives or sharp shooting," he said.

Abu al-Bara emphasized that Islamic Jihad is not just investing in tunnels, "we also invest in people."

He added, "With ideas and fighting, it is people who will liberate this land."

"After these things the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision: 'Fear not, Abram, I am your shield.'" (Genesis 15:1)

Hezbollah, with the help and backing of Iran and Syria, has very quickly turned into one of the most dangerous strategic enemies that Israel faces today.

Since the end of the Second Lebanon War in 2006, Hezbollah has focused on continuously developing new technological capabilities. Mainly focusing efforts on producing rockets and ballistic missiles, Hezbollah possesses a strength that is now far beyond many military's around the globe.

The terror organization has capitalized on the Syrian civil war by gaining access to the weapons and armaments flowing freely across the Syrian-Lebanese border, and is now far stronger than the foe that Israel faced in the summer of 2006.

While most of the groups arms come from Iran, much of the funding for those arms comes from the network that Hezbollah has built up around the world.

When Hezbollah was formed in the 1980s, its leaders utilized guerrilla warfare tactics that had never been seen before anywhere in the world. They created the concept of the suicide bomber in 1983.

Dual attacks, which unveiled the suicide bomber of modern times, had lethal and devastating effects when they attacked the multinational force headquarters as well as the US marine barracks in Beirut in 1983. The twin suicide attacks killed 299 people, including 58 French paratroopers and 240 US marines.

These tactics eventually proved successful at ousting Israel from southern Lebanon after an 18-year long drawn out war. Since the days of guerrilla-warfare and sporadic suicide bombing attacks, Hezbollah has developed into one of the strongest paramilitary forces in the world and is widely speculated to be far more powerful than the Lebanese army.

Hezbollah is well equipped and well trained, thanks mainly to its Iranian big brother.

Last year, the IDF confirmed that Hezbollah was in possession of thousands of long-range heavy rockets and tens of thousands of light, short-range rockets. In addition, these rockets are being turned into smart rockets that are equipped with GPS tracking systems, making them even more deadly than before.

Hezbollah now poses a very serious threat to Israel's civilian population and to the stability of the entire Middle East region. Due to help from the Iranian regime, Hezbollah now possess more than 100,000 rockets of Syrian and Iranian origin, with a payload ranging from 60 kg to almost 1 ton of explosives.

The larger and more advanced missiles in the Hezbollah arsenal including the M-600, the Zelzal-2 and the Scud D, increase Hezbollah's missile striking capability from the 75 km that it was during the Second Lebanon War to over 700 km, making it able to strike anywhere within Israel, and almost anywhere in the Middle East including as far away as Ankara in Turkey.

Missile defense expert Dr. Uzi Rubin, speaking last year at the annual INSS conference in Tel Aviv, said, that the full scale use of Hezbollah's arsenal in an armed conflict would "significantly disrupt Israel's air power... It would also change the priorities of the IDF's use of all missile defense systems."

"We (the IDF) are talking about escalating a war to quicken it, and end it within three days. They (Hezbollah) are talking about doing the same. This threat can degrade the IDF's ground capabilities via accurate missile strikes on army mobilization and staging grounds," Rubin warned.

Such an attack "can paralyze Israel's war economy. It can inflict massive casualties." In such a scenario, the IDF would not be able to use its missile defenses to protect the general population, but rather, they would primarily be employed to "preserve Israel's capability to fight a war, and save lives as far as possible," he explained.

The ominous overtones of Rabin's message from over a year ago cannot be more real than they are today. With Israel's northern border heating up due to the ongoing civil war in Syria, as well as the growing Iranian presence in the area, Hezbollah is being given a free hand to rearm and develop at an incredible pace.

With each passing day, the terror organization is becoming an increasingly dangerous threat to the well-being and safety of the State of Israel.
Iran's New Missile Puts Israel 'in Range' - Yaakov Levi - http://www.israelnationalnews.com/News/News.aspx/192293#.VPxsAZvcl9B

The Iranian military on Sunday announced that it had developed a new long-range cruise missile with a range of some 2,000 kilometers.

As the US and its allies continue to discuss limiting Iran's nuclear program with Tehran, the Iranian military on Sunday announced that it had developed a new long-range cruise missile with a range of some 2,000 kilometers (1,200 miles) - putting Israel well within its reach, Israeli sources said. The missile, called the "Soumar," features "different characteristics in terms of range and pinpoint accuracy in comparison with the previous products," Iranian Defense Minister Hossein Dehqan said at the unveiling of the missile Sunday.

The missile, Dehqan said, was developed based on the needs of the Iranian Armed Forces, and is "a crucial step towards increasing the country's defense and deterrence might."

On Saturday, an Iranian military official said that the country would be unveiling yet another missile system will be unveiled on April 18, when the country marks National Army Day. That system, called the Talaash-3, is based on the Russian S-200 missile system, the official said.

In his speech in Washington last week, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu said that while the world is capitulating to Iranian demands to allow it to continue with its nuclear development program, the issue of its delivery systems - the advanced missiles it is developing - has not even been placed on the agenda yet, because Iran refuses to discuss it at all. Commenting Sunday, Iran's Aerospace Division head Amirali Hajizadeh said that Tehran "will never negotiated the country's defense capabilities, including the development of its ballistic missiles."

In a statement, Iran's state-controlled Press TV quoted government sources as saying that "Iran has repeatedly assured other countries that its military might poses no threat to other states, insisting that the country's defense doctrine is entirely based on deterrence"

The new Soumar missile is named for a city on the Iraqi border whose inhabitants were nearly all wiped out by an Iraqi chemical attack during the Iran-Iraq war.
