The grim threat ahead - Bill Wilson - www.dailyjot.com
With all the presidential debates, issues, charges, counter-charges, sizes of body parts, and other base comments have arisen. It seems more of a freak show than anything presidential. Candidates are hardly respectful of one another, showing little statesmanship and a lot of showmanship. But when someone finally gets the chance to occupy the office, grim realities should set in. This government is a mess. The world is a mess. Leadership and character are lacking throughout the world, especially in the United States, which has traditionally held the "character" card. On inauguration day, there is an issue on which very few are focused, but one the next President and Congress must address.
The Washington Free Beacon reports that Gene Dodaro, the comptroller general for the Government Accountability Office, testified at the Senate Budget Committee about its audit on the government's financial books. Dodaro's findings were an indicator of how big government has grown, how out of control it is, and the massive undertaking it will take to get things under control. Dodaro told the senators that the US debt to gross national product ratio was 74%. To put that number in perspective, the average ratio has been 43% since immediately after WWII. He said that in 15-20 years, the US will owe more than it can produce, which means that our nation is not sustainable.
The audit found, according to Dodaro, that in just 2015 alone, some $136.7 BILLION of improper payments were made. Additionally, the audit found that the government books showed "hundreds of billions of dollars" in differences between government transactions. Dodaro told the senators, "GAO's audit calls into question the reliability of the underlying financial data. The sketchiness is such that GAO remains unable to even issue an audit opinion on the government's books." This is how the "president" is running our country, and how the Congress is holding him accountable. Imagine if the IRS audited your personal finances and found such discrepancies. It would seize your assets and you would be in jail.
This malfeasance leads to tyranny. Solomon wrote in Ecclesiastes 3:13, "...every man should eat and drink, and enjoy the good of all his labor, it is the gift of God." Even after the Lord returns, people will, as shown in Isaiah 65:21-23, "They shall build houses, and inhabit them; and they shall plant vineyards, and eat the fruit of them. They shall not build and another inhabit; they shall not plant and another eat: for as the days of a tree are the days of my people, and mine elect shall long enjoy the work of their hands. They shall not labor in vain." As long as our government and leaders are not held accountable, our citizenship is cheapened, and our general welfare, family security and property are threatened.
