The concrete wall around certain parts of the West Bank was built by the Israeli government to prevent terrorists and suicide bombers from entering Jewish cities and villages. The barrier was constructed out of pure desperation. The number of Palestinians who were willing to sacrifice their lives seemed endless, and the only solution was total isolation.
The wall has been a huge success. It didn't stop 80, 90 or 95 percent of the attacks. Once the wall was finished, the tide of suicide bombings came to a sudden halt. Considering how determined the Palestinians have become at murdering, the designer of wall should have gotten the Noble Peace Prize. Of course, in this anti-Israel environment, it would be like giving recognition to Nazi scientists for their help in the advancement of rocketry.
The enemies of Israel have hoped the wall would fail. They were made all the more frustrated by the economic boom that the wall created. While the bombing was taking place, Israel's economy suffered tremendously as people were too afraid to go out in public places. Once it became clear that the angel of death had been restricted to the West Bank, people flocked to beaches, clubs, and restaurants.
The liberal Media had to put on their thinking caps to recast this situation. They tried claiming this was wrong because this was a repeat of the "Berlin Wall." The East German government was the puppet of the Kremlin and it created the Berlin wall to stop German citizens from fleeing to the West. Since the vast majority of Palestinians would gladly immigrate to Israel, the Berlin wall comparison didn't work.
Liberal groups are now making the claim that the wall represents the implementation of an apartheid policy. By keeping the Palestinians locked into the West Bank, Israel is able to maintain its majority. The current plan by the Palestinians is to have their own separate nation. The use of the apartheid claim is just the admittance that once the Palestinians gain full control of the West Bank, they have their eyes on all of Israel.
The main reason why Israel refuses to let the West Bank become a recognized nation is because it doesn't want to live next to a free terrorist state. Gaza, the lawless strip of land controlled by the Hamasshould be proof enough that the Palestinians are unqualified to run a nation.
Israel is the only nation on earth where the rest of the world seeks to micromanage its domestic border affairs. The UN general body is constantly telling Israel where it can't put up a wall.
Spain has 20-foot border fences around their two North African enclaves, Ceuta and Melilla. It was built to keep out migrants, mostly from sub-Saharan countries hoping to get a foot into Europe. There are no protests against Spain for having these fences. With hundreds of deaths resulting from migrants making the dangerous crossing of the Mediterranean Sea, you would think some blame would point back to Spain.
China has the most famous border wall. In 220 B.C., China began joining existing walls and fortifications to defend against invasions from northern "barbarians," marking the beginning of the Great Wall. Construction continued up through the Ming dynasty (1368 -1644) until the wall became the world's largest military structure.
At its peak, the Great Wall ran 12,500 miles; and its main purpose was to allow troops and couriers to move quickly. I've never heard anything negative about the Great Wall. Its construction has always been a reflection on the wisdom and cleverness of Chinese planners.
The Egyptian military is working on strengthening its border with Gaza. After militants killed 31 Egyptian troops in an assault on a checkpoint, Egypt decided to carve out a buffer zone by flooding dozens of tunnels with what it calls a giant "fish farm." Hamas accused Egypt of further isolating the beleaguered Palestinian territory. The complaint fell on deaf ears because everyone but Israel has the right to control their own border.
There has been such a massive effort to mask the reason why Israel built the wall; protests against its existence are becoming more common. I'm constantly reading news reports about Palestinians getting into fights with the Israeli military over some project tied to the wall. What is being implied is that Israel doesn't have a right to have the wall. What they were actually saying is "Please Let Us Come Kill You."
The Bible predicts that the world's fixation with Israel will only grow in these last days. God promised that He would make "Jerusalem a burdensome stone" for all nations. Anyone who does not stand with Israel will find themselves fighting with the Lord of hosts.
"And in that day will I make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all people: all that burden themselves with it shall be cut in pieces, though all the people of the earth be gathered together against it" (Zechariah 12:3).
