What to do Part 1 THRU 4

What to do Part 1 - Bill Wilson -

In response to the congressman admitting that there is an ongoing coup attempt by the President's opponents, many Daily Jot readers ask the question, "What do we do about this?" It's not only about the constant haranguing, bullying and labeling of anyone who disagrees with the coup-makers, but also about our freedoms of religion and speech and way of life. One reader was representative of the others, writing, "Please, help us, tell us what we can do!! It surely seems the silent majority just doesn't know what to do, who or how we get into action and stop this...I truly believe if you would give some direction this would help tremendously." It's not my place to tell you what to do, but here are some considerations.

First, this takes some self-examination. This young man asked what he had to do to receive eternal life. Jesus said you have to give up your self, take up the cross (which was very offensive for it was the most demeaning way to die), and follow him. In counting the costs, the young man could not bear to do what the Lord advised. Considering the depth of the situation, you will have to determine how far you are willing to go. When the powers that be can ruin your life, as they have tried to do to President Donald Trump, the cost beyond writing letters and making phone calls becomes very high. This is, however, not about politics or even government. We are seeing the results of not taking up the cross and following Jesus.

What are you willing to do? How far are you willing to carry the cross? Christ said in Matthew 5:13, "You are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? It is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out and to be trodden under foot of men." The reason I do not often tell you what to do is because I believe you need to be seeking the Holy Spirit, studying your Bible in its context and true meaning, and determining your course of action. For myself, I speak out. I find people at the grocery store, gas pump, athletic gatherings, etc., to use the news to speak out. If you think attending your church's "be all you can be in Christ" seminar is speaking out, perhaps you need to think this through a bit more.

Society has become so dark because the light is dim. As Christ said in Matthew 5:14-15, "You are the light of the world: A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it gives light unto all that are in the house." Similarly, changing the world cannot be done inside the four walls of churches and conference centers. Don't allow these things to hide your light. Your light is the light of Christ and it needs to shine. If it's extra-biblical, emotional and self-indulgent, your light is not going to shine because it becomes about you, rather than Christ. So the first step in What to Do is self examination and counting the cost. Then you need to bend over and pick up that cross. Politics and government have nothing to do with this, it's about relationship with Christ and following him.

If you missed yesterdays Daily Jot, we were discussing what to do about the condition of our nation. The first step, I believe, is self-examination. It starts with every individual determining the cost of action. The cost of taking up their cross and following Christ beyond four walls-of your church, of your home, of your safe places. Then you need to ask yourself, "what is it that I want to change?" The Holy Spirit will guide you if you pray and seek the Lord on what you should do. Now, I know that this is not answering the question in whole about what to do about our nation, but these are fundamental questions you must ask yourself to be an effective world-changer. It's about relationship with the Lord because without him, we cannot win.

As with any warrior, you are going to be challenged in whatever you do to change the world. It is important to be suited up, well armed, and trained. Hosea 4:1 says, "For the Lord has a controversy with the inhabitants of the land, because there is not truth, nor mercy, nor knowledge of God in the land." Sound familiar? Hosea 4:1 says, "For the Lord has a controversy with the inhabitants of the land, because there is not truth, nor mercy, nor knowledge of God in the land." Verse 6 says, "My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Get educated. Study your Bible. Study the area you want to change. Have discernment. Be able to spot the danger areas, the hypocrisies, the principalities. Prepare yourself for battle.

Part of putting on that full armor of God is to not be offended. People will disagree. Your salvation will come into question. You will be accused from the content of others' hearts. To prevent me from being offended, the Lord gave me Ezekiel 3:17-21. Verse 18 says, "When I say unto the wicked, You shall surely die; and you give him not a warning, nor speak to warn the wicked from his wicked way, to save his life...his blood I will require at your hand." In other words, "you better tell them what I tell you to tell them and it is up to them to do with it what they will. But if you don't tell them, its on you." This prevents offense. You are just the messenger. Once you have given the message, it's on the recipient to act. But remember to deliver the message from a heart of love and obedience. A kind word turns away wrath. Pray before you act.

Prayer is wonderful if that is all you can do. James 5:16 says, "The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much." But as James wrote even before that in 2:17: "Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone." The Lord wants you to act. Pray and act. If you are not hearing from the Lord on what to do, pray more fervently. It is not up to me to tell you what to do. The Lord will tell you by his Holy Spirit. You must hear and take action. The Lord will not tell you to do anything that does not align with his Holy Scripture IN ITS CONTEXT--that is how you confirm if you are hearing from the Lord. Righteous people must be more vocal and active about what is just and right. Move beyond your walls.

What to do Part 3 - Bill Wilson -

In What to do parts 1 and 2 we discussed ways to prepare yourself to take action in changing the condition of our nation. Self-examination, relationship with Christ, seeking the guidance of the Holy Spirit, educating yourself, preparing for battle, not becoming offended, and prayer are all steps in getting ready to take action. I can already hear many people saying, "Bill, we have done all that, get to the point." I must say that after being in the arena, first in journalism, then in politics, then business and now ministry, there is no substitute for preparation. You have got to know who you are, what you are trying to accomplish, and who is leading you otherwise you are setting yourself up for failure. Now let's look at practical ways to act.

In Ephesians 6:20, the Apostle Paul prays, "that therein I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak." This nation has been on a spiritual and moral decline for decades. It is not going to be fixed over night. We are going to have to do the painstaking task of heart to heart combat-changing hearts by our words and deeds. When we hear injustice, we need to speak about it and point it out-not in an offensive way because that would be just like those committing the injustice-in ways that are factual, in love and in truth. This needs to start in your family and expand out like the ripple a rock makes when you throw it in a pond. Look for opportunities to bring common sense to others that may make them think about the idiocy they are promoting.

Another way is to organize and take part in civil disobedience. In October 2013, the World War II vets were so frustrated with the occupant of the Oval Office shutting down the Memorials that they stormed them. With a little help from some politicians and younger vets, they went in their walkers and wheel chairs and on foot and took down the barriers. They toured the memorials and then took the barriers over to the White House where they left them in front of officers dressed in riot gear. This is an example of what we need in this country. We need people who will go to the streets and start opposing the unconstitutional and disrespectful acts of the usurpers. They felt they had nothing to lose.

Until Americans feel they have nothing to lose except the freedom the government is taking away, we probably will not see an end to this tyranny. The price of freedom is great. Doing what we are commanded by the Holy Scriptures, making disciples, standing on the righteousness of Christ, overcoming evil with good are all things we can do to change things for the better. Don't be political, be practical. Don't be symbolic, be sensible. Don't be emotional, be experiential. And having done all, stand. Trouble is, we are a long ways from having done all. In looking at what can be done politically to change the nation, there is a model that we can follow that is working today. Next Jot. Stay tuned for What to do Part 4.

What to do Part 4 - Bill Wilson -

In What to do Part 3, I promised to give you a very successful model that is working today to change America. Armed with scriptures like Deuteronomy 30:19, "I call heaven and earth as witness this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live," a group of people have put away their religious differences to save lives across America. The pro-life movement has made a bigger difference in the past couple of decades than any other organized religious or political group. Their collaboration, tenacity, perseverance, and commitment to God and to life is changing this country. It is a model to follow.

Think about this--in 1973 the Supreme Court ruled to legalize abortion. In 46 years, no one has been able to overturn that decision. But pro-life forces have prayed and acted until 2019 where the Planned Parenthood abortion mill is being defunded by government; 14 states such as Alabama, Ohio,Kentucky, Mississippi, and Georgia have various forms of abortion bans. Six-week bans have also moved in Missouri and Tennessee legislatures, and have been introduced in Florida, Illinois, Louisiana, Maryland, Minnesota, New York, South Carolina and West Virginia. The pro-abortion Guttmacher Institute reports: "Banning abortion at six weeks has emerged as a leading tactic for antiabortion politicians and activists, with the ultimate goal of challenging Roe v Wade at the U.S. Supreme Court." 'Bama took it beyond that!

During the past decade, prospective mothers may be making better life-death choices. According to the Centers for Disease Control, the total number of reported abortions decreased 24% over the period of 2006-2015, and abortions among women aged 15-19 decreased 41% during the same period. This is all because the pro-life movement, faced with tremendous odds, hatred, even jail time, endured over a 46 year period to make these gains. It took prayer, organization, commitment, patience, and tenacity to just get to this point. This movement, however, is making tremendous progress because it will not and has not given up. Its soldiers work with those who are like-minded and motivated, putting religious and political differences aside. Who would have thought that Alabama would essentially ban abortion and hold doctors accountable?

This is an example of how to change culture. But remember that it has taken nearly half a century and the goal is still not reached. Many people have come and gone, died without seeing the victory. But they were committed. It is going to take the same type of godly commitment and resolve to rid America of the immoral neo-communists who openly hate those who disagree with them as they attempt to remake America into a graven image of satan. America did not get into this position overnight. And it will take a long time to reverse the trend because this is a foundational issue of reeducating our children, changing the emphasis and relevance of the church, organizing politically, and electing good people to office. It's a tall order, and it's hard work, but you asked "what to do?" It starts with taking the first step. Prepare, educate, speak, act.
