"Ceasefire" Begins - With Rockets
Everyone knows by now that Hamas' idea of a "ceasefire" is "you cease, we'll continue to fire." The current ceasefire, brokered by Egypt started out with Hamas rockets continuing to rain down on Israel. Now, as I write, Hamas has finally stopped firing rockets. That can only mean that Hamas is eating dust - at least for now-although they have been celebrating their "victory." There will no doubt be another round of fighting - if something drastic doesn't happen to change the equation.
Hamas philosophy is apparently based on the "Algeria model," where 20 years of resistance to French occupation sent a million French soldiers back to where they came from. That will never work in Israel. The French had a "home" to return to; Israelis do not. They are home. Therefore, they will stay. Hamas leaders have proven that Gaza is not their home. When things get hot they flee to Qatar or other safe Arab capitals, leaving their people to suffer. Thus, they are the transient ones, not Israel. They have proved it by their behavior.
That the Jews are at home here is proved by their love of the land, the care they take of it, and the way they fight to defend it, rather than running away when war breaks out.
Now that things have quieted down a bit, as mentioned, Hamas is proclaiming a glorious victory. Are they delusional, or is this just more of their effort to deceive the public? I have noticed something among people like Hamas and other terrorist groups (it doesn't apply to all Arabs): they apparently try to create their own reality by telling themselves something is true when they know (or should know) that it is not. Palestinian leaders have been telling their people not to worry - that Israel will soon be gone. They have been saying there is no archeological evidence that the Jews ever had a temple on the Temple Mount. They have said that this never was the homeland of the Jews. They have been saying that the Holocaust has been exaggerated, if it ever happened at all.
As for whether or not the Jews belong in "Palestine," Muslims need to read the Qur'an carefully. Speaking about the Jews, Surah 5:20 says, "He has raised up prophets among you, made you kings, and given you that which He has given to no other nation. Enter, my people, the holy land which God has assigned to you." Surah 10:93, "We settled the Israelites in a secure land and provided them with wholesome things." Surah 17:103, "Then we said to the Israelites, Dwell in the land. When the promise of the hereafter comes to be fulfilled, We shall assemble you all together."
Again, as for the Hamas "victory" in this latest round of fighting, Hamas has claimed glorious victories all through the conflict (Haviv Gur, The Times of Israel). But "Palestine" keeps getting smaller and more destitute. The ceasefire calls for placing the PA, not Hamas, in charge of border crossings. It leaves every Hamas "precondition" for a ceasefire - a seaport, the opening of Rafah, the free flow of construction supplies, etc. - off the table for future discussion. In other words, Hamas gave up all its preconditions and took a deal Israel accepted a month ago, without even managing to take Gaza's disarmament off the negotiating table. It achieved nothing for Gaza in all those weeks of fighting, weeks during which it publicly rejected multiple ceasefire offers identical to this one, even after Israel had accepted them (The Times of Israel).
Why the Left and Islam Join Together Against Israel
"The Left and Islam make strange bedfellows," says a recent article in The Wittenberg Door. The Left is allegedly the political philosophy of freedom, liberation, social justice, women's rights, animal rights, and warm puppies. Islam on the other hand promotes Sharia law, limits the role of women in society and the family, would hang gays, lesbians and the transgendered, is against free speech (must not insult the prophet), and is responsible for most death-by-terror in the world. Islam allows for rape, pedophilia, and recruits children as suicide bombers. As I write this, ISIS is demanding Iraqi women undergo genital mutilation.
But the Left can and does join forces against Israel.
Wittenberg Door continues, "One might think this is coincidental: Islam hates Israel because it has historically done so, and the Left is against Israel because Israel is perceived to be unjust toward its neighbors" [but that is not the only reason]. "Otherwise these two entities, Islam and the Left, have almost nothing in common. The Left's silence on the above Islamic social values is telling."
"But," the author of the article says, "I think there is a much greater reason for the Left's hatred of Israel: the rebellion against the acts of God in history. The Bible is clear that the land belongs to the heirs of Isaac, as he was the son of the promise. Ishmael was born to a slave woman, Hagar. This sets Islam against Judaism and Christianity, as the claim to the land and blessings of Isaac are seen to be usurped by Isaac, not divinely conferred upon him. Islam will forever be at war with the Jews, and the Jews know it. If Israel were to be eliminated as a state, no Jew would be allowed to exist anywhere else in peace. Islam will seek to eliminate all descendants of Isaac."
"Israel has a biblical, historical, moral, legal, political and theological claim to the land," the author rightly declares. "The Left does not seem to get this, as the Left has little use for, or useful understanding of, Christian theology. Failing to understand this, however, means that the Left's confusion about the events that are taking place in Israel will continue.
The Left has some sort of relativist understanding of "human rights" or "social justice." Justice is served when terrorists are rebuffed and punished. But if launching rockets from hospitals, schools, and homes is okay, and measured retaliation is not, then the Left is too morally and legally confused to comprehend. Starting with a hatred of Israel, no attack against Israel is unjustified in Leftist thinking. The same is true of Islam; hence, the Left and Islam may be confused on many issues, but they are definitely "bedfellows."
Want to Boycott Israel? Better Think Again
Recently Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei urged the Muslim world to boycott anything and everything that originated with the Jewish people. A pharmacist offered to "assist" them in their boycott as follows (these apply to anyone, but especially to Muslims):
* Anyone who has heart disease must not use Digitalis, a discovery by a Jew, Ludwig Traube. If he suffers with a toothache, he must not use Novocaine, another Jewish discovery - Widal and Weil.
* A person with diabetes must not use insulin, the result of research by Minkowsky, a Jew. If one has a headache he must not use Pyramidon and Antypyrin, discovered by Jews.
* A person who has convulsions must put up with them because it was a Jew, Oscar Leibreich, who proposed the use of Chloral Hydrate.
* People must also put up with their psychic ailments because Freud, the father of psychoanalysis, was Jewish.
* If a child gets diphtheria, he must refrain from the "Schick" reaction which was invented by the Jew, Bella Schick.
* Muslims must not permit treatment of ear and brain damage, work of Jewish Nobel Prize winner.
* People should continue to die or remain crippled by polio because the discoverer of the anti-polio vaccine was a Jew, Jonas Salk.
* They should also refuse to use Streptomycin and continue to die of tuberculosis because a Jew, Zalman Waxman, invented the drug used against this killer disease.
* Doctors must discard all discoveries and improvements by dermatologist Judas Sehn Benedict, or the lung specialist, Frawnkel, and of many other world renowned Jewish scientists and medical experts.
* Finally, if you are anti-Jewish in your thinking and feeling, don't call for a doctor on your cell phone because the cell phone was invented in Israel by a Jewish engineer (danielpipes.org, July 2012).
It's Not All Bad
No, the news is not all bad, and not all Palestinians hate the Jews, and vice versa. Recently a Jewish couple were driving through an Arab village in the West Bank when Palestinians started throwing stones at them. One of the stones, as big as a melon, came through the windshield and hit Yedaya, the driver, in the face. He lost control of the car; it veered sideways, hitting the safety barrier, flipped over and landed in a ditch upside down.
While the family was trapped in the car, Palestinian passersby began walking toward them. The wife, Hadassah, was afraid and became alarmed, but the Palestinians helped her calm down: "Lady, don't worry. We came to help you." With her instructions [she is a nurse], they first got the baby out of the back seat, and then helped the adults out of the car. Yedaya was seriously injured and was evacuated to Hadassah hospital in Jerusalem, where he was found to have life-threatening head injuries. He is under treatment as I write this article. The Palestinians are to be commended for their kindness.
Prime Minister's Speech
The following is a short excerpt from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's speech at a military base after the end of the fighting.
I would like to [extend] my best wishes for a quick and complete recovery to our wounded soldiers. I visited them, not all of them, but as many as I could, and I was impressed by their strength of spirit. I was impressed by the public's and their families' great love for them. Every one of them is dear to me just as every one of our fallen soldiers is dear to me. And their families, I know their loss and the depth of their pain and sorrow. To the families this evening I say the words that we read a few weeks ago in the haftorah, [from the prophet Isaiah (40:1), 'Comfort ye, comfort ye, My people.' And comfort may be taken in the strong and united nation that stands here on its land, the Land of Israel, which is determined to defend our state, the State of Israel, with your support, with your splendid unity. We acted just as we promised all through the operation - with level-headedness and responsibility, with foresight broad enough to ensure your security, citizens of Israel."
"Behold, a king will reign in righteousness, and princes will rule with justice. A man will be as a hiding place from the wind, and a cover from the tempest, as rivers of water in a dry place, as the shadow of a great rock in a weary land" (Isaiah 32:1-2).
