God's Voting Booth -

God's Voting Booth - Todd Strandberg - http://www.raptureready.com/rap16.html

It is sad to say that today most Christians have their heads in the proverbial sand. They deliberately determine to not be aware of the many cultural, geopolitical, religious and every other societal ills that Americans face today.

Again, here, I'm referring to "believers," not to the American electorate in general. This "think not" generation I've often written about, like the population as a whole, most often fall victim to mainstream news media that push their viewers, listeners, and readers in the direction they want them to go. Most often that direction is away from godly or even common-sense thoughts and action.

Entertainment media does the same, and they are even more effective in shaping how the public view the world around them, be it general or Christian. All of this is a big part of why this nation and the world, for that matter, are both in such a dark, spiritual state. Hollywood has for generations built the downward spiraling slope for people to take-in the slide toward eventual national oblivion.

It seems we are headed toward that abyss at breakneck speed. Suddenly there seems some awakening within the American people in general. I'm not so sure how awakened the Christian population, specifically, is part of this awakening. What I mean by that is that the recent political polls showed that this administration and all of Congress are in great disfavor with those who say they are potential voters. Tuesday's election seems to indicate that the polls were quite accurate in reflecting that at least voting America-awakened somewhat to the ominous direction we are headed.

There is a strong sense that the results, more than likely, are a referendum on government that seems in disarray, with the underlying displeasure directed primarily at the economic malaise. The government may say we are in a period of improving employment and general uptick in the economy, but voters, individually, know it is a big lie perpetrated in order for the politicians to keep their jobs.

In the matter of Christians and the voting booth, it looks much the same for the most part. It is economic matters, not the moral issues like the gay agenda, abortion vs. right to life, religious morality vs. secular mandates, etc., that push most Christian voters' buttons as they enter the voting booth to pull the levers for or against what's going on in this nation.

For truly spiritually sensitive believers, the way is clear. While the moral issues take precedent with them, and these must be dealt with within the political process of conducting life and in the voting booth-it is in the Prayer Closet where the cultural war must be waged. Holding fire to the feet of politicians is a tool that is only effective as their elections approach. Time after time we watch politicians, once they become office holders go off to Washington or to the state houses or wheresoever, to "represent" us. They then become seemingly deaf and blind to our collective wish in the matters of the direction we desire government to take us.

An example is the matter of amnesty for illegal aliens. The public makes it very clear that we don't want the borders open to a massive wave of undocumented people from south of our borders. Nevertheless, the president and his party and many of the other party's ruling body as well, are determined to make amnesty happen.

They do so for their own, political reasons, and it is glaringly obvious to even the more obtuse voters among us. They want amnesty to hopefully create a larger and larger voter-base for themselves. The more government gives away to the welfare class, the more such people will want to return (vote in), the raiders of our treasury to power. The dependents will eagerly give their votes to such politicians, once they are allowed to vote.

To be honest with ourselves, we must know and act accordingly on the fact that our political process, even if seeming to be improved by a single election like this midterm election, will continue taking us down that road to the abyss. Politicians, and the electorate-will continue to act in the same way that has brought us to this low point. Elections are not the answer.

God's voting booth is the prayer closet.

This is where this war or any war is won, ultimately. We who truly believe that God has the answers, must determine as never before to put Him first in every aspect of our personal and national life. We must enter into the political process, but armed with the spiritual armaments taken from our prayer closets.

"Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; and your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints" (Ephesians 6: 13-18).
