AMAZING UNDERWATER EYES
Psalm 94:9
"He that planted the ear, shall he not hear? he that formed the eye, shall he not see?"
We love it when one of our listeners brings something of interest to our attention that we can pass along to other listeners. A listener sent us a link to an article at the National Geographic website on little-known facts about the eyes of animals. Though National Geographic treats evolution as fact, no mention was made that God created the eyes of these animals, but we are sure that our listeners will be quick to give credit where credit is due!
When asked which creature has the most eyes, the magazine replied that the world record holder is a type of mollusk called chiton. This ocean dweller has thousands of eyes embedded in shells on their backs. Most scallop species also have up to hundreds of eyes, as do giant clams. What's more, certain types of tubeworms called sabellids and serpulids have hundreds of small, compound eyes on their feeling appendages.
When asked which animal has the most advanced vision system, the article gave the nod to another underwater creature - the mantis shrimp. Their stalked eyes have three separate regions, and they are even able to see ultraviolet and circularly polarized light. Compared to our own three photoreceptors, mantis shrimp have up to sixteen! The crustaceans may use their photoreceptors to recognize colors right in the eye, rather than processing them in the brain, as we do.

KNOCKING EVOLUTION OVER WITH A FEATHER
Deuteronomy 32:11
"As an eagle stirreth up her nest, fluttereth over her young, spreadeth abroad her wings, taketh them, beareth them on her wings:"
The foundation of evolution is so weak, the flight feather of a bird can send it crumbling to the ground. Perhaps no one is better equipped to speak on the amazing design of flight feathers than Dr. Stuart Burgess, the engineer who designed the solar array deployment system on the European Space Agency's earth observation satellite. In addition to his engineering work at Bristol University, he is the author of Hallmarks of Design: Evidence of Purposeful Design and Beauty in Nature.
In this book he points out that the flight feather is a masterpiece of design and is one of the most efficient structures known to man. The hooks and barbules of a feather are arranged so that they prevent air from passing through them when the wing is pushing downwards, but they allow air to pass through them when the wing is being pulled upwards. This feature, he writes, enables the bird to maximize the efficiency of flapping by only allowing the wing to push down on the air.
While evolutionists admit that the feather is an amazing structure, they insist that it evolved by a long series of genetic mistakes. But Dr. Burgess makes it clear that this is just impossible. The interlocking barbs and barbules must all be in place simultaneously for the feather to function.
To borrow a phrase from the Intelligent Design folks, the feather is irreducibly complex. All it takes is a single feather to show that the theory of evolution is a theory that just won't fly.
Lord Jesus, whenever I see a bird in flight, remind me that it is You who gave them their remarkable ability to fly. Amen.

THE STUPIDITY VIRUS
Ecclesiastes 10:3
"Yea also, when he that is a fool walketh by the way, his wisdom faileth him, and he saith to every one that he is a fool."
As we've mentioned on previous Creation Moments programs, our bodies contain trillions of bacteria, viruses and fungi, most of which are harmless. But researchers have now discovered a virus that infects human brains and makes us more stupid. No, we're not making this up.
The ATCV-1 virus is ordinarily found in green algae that inhabit rivers and lakes. So far, scientists have no idea how the micoorganism gets inside the throats of some humans. But this much they do know - it is not contagious and does not adversely affect a person's health. It just makes them 10 percent more stupid.
The irony is that the scientists at Johns Hopkins Medical School and the University of Nebraska stumbled upon this discovery by sheer dumb luck. They were actually working on an unrelated study into throat microbes. Virologist Dr. Robert Yolken tells us: "This is a striking example showing that the 'innocuous' microorganisms we carry can affect behavior and cognition."
Of the 90 participants in the study, 40 tested positive for the algae virus. Those who tested positive performed worse on tests designed to measure the speed and accuracy of visual processing. They also achieved lower scores in tasks designed to measure attention.
Like a virus that affects our behavior, the sin nature we're all born with makes us "stupid" in the knowledge of God. But God has overcome our fallen sin nature and makes us righteous through the blood of Jesus, poured out for us on the cross.
Heavenly Father, thank You for the Holy Spirit who helps me avoid stupid actions and stupid thinking. Help me follow His leading so I may behave in a way worthy of my calling. Amen.

WHERE THE BATTLE RAGES
Psalm 140:7
"O GOD the Lord, the strength of my salvation, thou hast covered my head in the day of battle."
Today's Creation Moment is taken from a viewpoint commentary written by Creation Moments Board Chairman Mark Cadwallader.
The date: October 31, 1517. The place: Germany. The event: Martin Luther nails his famous 95 Theses to the Wittenberg church door. Luther was primarily protesting the sale of indulgences, a direct attack on God's free gift of salvation.
As Luther put it, "If I profess with the loudest voice and clearest expression every portion of the truth of God except precisely that little point which the world and the devil are at that moment attacking, I am not confessing Christ, however boldly I may be professing Christ."
In addition to defending salvation by grace through faith, Luther also saw that the battle was raging over the Bible's account of creation. In his pithy way he told the skeptics, "When Moses writes that God created heaven and earth and whatever is in them in six days, then let this period continue to have been six days. But if you cannot understand how this could have been done in six days, then grant the Holy Spirit the honor of being more learned than you are."
Luther stressed the biblical view that the Word was God's instrument of creation, the Word which spoke things into existence and the Word which became flesh to win our salvation. In raising the text of Scripture to the level of highest authority in all things, Luther's was part of that view which gave birth to modern science - founded in the West by biblical creationists!
Heavenly Father, with Satan is attacking biblical creation, help me to be bold in defending the truth so others may know they can trust the Bible and turn from the lie of evolution. Amen.

THE GREATEST MASS MURDERER OF ALL TIME

"Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning."
Who do you think was the greatest mass murderer the world has ever seen? Adolf Hitler? Not even close. According to Creation Moments Board Chairman Mark Cadwallader, the greatest mass murderer was China's Mao Tse Tung. During his political reign, Mao was responsible for murdering 77 million people while enforcing his "Great Leap Forward", and he "purged" millions more during what he called "The Cultural Revolution".
Interestingly, Mao is reported to have said the following: "Chinese socialism is founded upon Darwin and the theory of evolution." Now, who's the runner-up to Mao? No, it's still not Hitler. The second greatest mass murderer was Joseph Stalin, who similarly saw the value of evolution to his plans for a collectivist state. He used purges, starvation and prison camps to force people out of their own property and into acceptance of the ideology where God is replaced by government. He was responsible for the murder of up to 40 million people.
The presumption that evolution is a scientific fact, disproving God and validating the philosophy of "might makes right", has justified terrible atrocities in the post-Darwin twentieth century.
Darwinism isn't just responsible for the physical death of millions, it has led to the spiritual death of many millions of people who prefer to live in a universe where God does not exist. Thankfully, God is opening the eyes of many to the truth found in the pages of the Bible - that we are not the product of evolution but were created by God.
Heavenly Father, I personally know many people who are deceived by the lie of evolution. I pray that You will use me to help some of them get on the narrow path that leads to eternal life. Amen.
