Over twice as many Americans agree with Israel's claim that they are not primarily to blame for the failure of the Middle East peace process according to a new poll by The Israel Project. London Buses to Become Cashless
Starting in July, fares paid with cash will not be allowed on London buses. The decision came after a public consultation involving 37,000 people. Transport for London (TfL) said one third of those who responded agreed with the proposal. TfL said cashless fairs would save money as the cost of collecting such low levels of cash was high and delays would be reduced, also helping to save money. Buses began accepting payment via contactless debit cards last December.

North Korea "Must Disappear Soon"
A South Korean official said that North Korea "must disappear soon." The comment was made after a series of sexist and racist slurs by North Korea against the leaders of South Korea and the United States. Pyongyang has been ramping up its rhetoric against Seoul and Washington. Worries about renewed tension on the Korean Peninsula have recently deepened with Pyongyang threatening to conduct its fourth nuclear test.

Jimmy Carter Hails Palestinian Unity
According to former president Jimmy Carter, the Palestinian unity agreement between Hamas and Fatah offers Israel an opportunity to move the peace process forward since any future agreement would incorporate all of the West Bank and Gaza. This reconciliation of Palestinian factions and formation of a national unity government is necessary because it would be impossible to implement any peace agreement between Israel and just one portion of the Palestinians, according to Carter.

Support for EU Improves
Attitudes toward the European Union have improved ahead of elections to the European Parliament. According to results from the Pew Research Center, a median 52 percent of people surveyed held positive views of the union as economic conditions have improved. That represents a rise of six percentage points from 2013. The euro crisis dealt a blow to the image of the European Union, the report said. But there has been "a new public sense that the worst is now over."

Pope Calls for Inter-Religious Dialogue
Pope Francis is calling for better relations between Christians and Muslims in Algeria where Islamic extremism is a primary source of pressure on Christian life. Pope Francis is encouraging the Christians, a minority in Algeria, to be more open to friendship and inter religious dialogue. Algeria is ranked No. 32 in the 2014 World Watch List of the 50 countries where it is most difficult to be Christian, and gets 54 points (51 points in 2013) because the position of Christians in the country remains as challenging as before, and has even worsened.

First Woman Commander
Major General Kristin Lund, of Norway, has become the first woman ever to serve as Force Commander in a United Nations peacekeeping operation. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon's spokesperson today confirmed the appointment of the Norwegian who will lead the UN Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP) which marks its 50th anniversary this year.
