Scour Net for 'Hate Speech'
Sen. Ed Markey,
D-Mass., and Rep. Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y are putting together a bill that calls
for the Justice Department and the US Commission on Civil Rights to analyze
information on the use of telecommunications to advocate and encourage violent
acts and the commission of crimes of hate. The Boston Herald took issue
with the bill, saying it's "frankly chilling" that Markey is seeking to "empower
an obscure federal agency to begin scouring the Internet, TV and radio speech it
finds threatening."

US 'to React' if Russia Crosses Into
Ukraine
The US ambassador to Ukraine has said that an
"inevitable reaction" should be expected from the United States if Russian
troops were to cross the border into Ukraine. Russia has massed tens of
thousands of troops in areas near the Ukrainian border. There is concern that
Moscow aims to use unrest in the east as a pretext for an invasion.

The Palestinians Outnumbered
Attorney
Elyakim Haetzni, a former Israeli Knesset Member, thinks Palestinian Authority
(PA) chief Mahmoud Abbas has outnumbered Benjamin Netanyahu and that Israel is
in danger of losing more ground. After being recognized as a state by the UN,
all avenues are open before the PA in the struggle over Israel's sovereignty.
Until now, Haetzni explained, Israel has not been defined as an occupier,
according to the Geneva convention. This could change now, however.

Czech Republic has Zero Influence
Czech
President Vaclav Klaus said, "I must honestly say we have zero influence, even
though the current prime minister believes our influence is big. It is not. The
EU, particularly through its Lisbon Treaty, has given a giant position to the
European great powers and largely degraded the role of small European
countries." Klaus also repeated his support for the national currency and
rejected the adoption of the euro.

40 Day Fast to Protest Gay Marriage
The
Family Foundation is encouraging pastors and congregations to fast between Aug.
27 and Oct. 5 to fight against the legalization of gay marriage. "Our nation,
built on a Judeo Christian foundation, has been greatly blessed by the Lord, but
instead of being thankful, we have turned our back on the Lord and His teachings
and followed after other gods," organization said.

With much
of the world deeply suspicious of the would be Internet overlords, the final
agreement from the NETmundial summit was deliberately scripted to seem as
non-threatening as possible, but they failed. Among the most alarming "Internet
Governance Principles" outlined in the final declaration is the notion of the
World Wide Web as "a global resource which should be managed in the public
