Nearing Midnight: Israel's Global Image Quagmire

Nearing Midnight: Israel's Global Image Quagmire - Todd Strandberg -   http://www.raptureready.com/rap16.html

The nation of Israel is increasingly becoming caught in a military quagmire-because it has failed to deal decisively with the radical Islamists that control the Gaza strip. One of the most important factors of warfare is to understand the moral state of your enemy. If Hamas has no regard for the lives of innocent Israeli citizens and its own people, the Israeli military needs to apply the required amount of force to end the rocket bombardment.

I don't know of any nation that would sit idly by while another state fired rockets into its territory. If Mexican drug warlords began shelling Brownville, Texas; there would be a rapid response by our military.

The government of Israel is so worried about what the world will think of its actions, it has taken steps that can only be described as lunacy. Before Israel strikes a target into the Gaza strip, it will first call the residence of the building. It will then fire a rocket that does not contain an explosive charge. This is called "knocking on the roof." Once time is given for people to flee the target zone, a real missile is fired, and the building is destroyed.

There is only so much Israel can do to contain the risk of collateral damage. If you drop a bomb on a structure, people are going to get killed or injured. I remember watching a YouTube video from Iraq that showed the U.S. Army blowing up captured munitions. The soldier filming the detonation was standing at least two miles away. Right after the explosion, a large clutch of metal came flying out of the sky and almost hit him. Since Gaza is one the most crowded areas on earth, it's nearly impossible to avoid civilian casualties.

Israel has so far attacked over 1100 targets, resulting in 160 civilian killed, which is around one death for every 7.5 targets hit. During the 1999 Kosovo air war, Human Rights Watch, found that NATO had killed approximately 500 civilians in attacks on more than 900 targets. That's more than one death for every two targets hit. In the invasion of Iraq, 3,500 civilians died in the attacks on 2,100 targets, which is two deaths for every target.

The press coverage is clearly biased against Israel. When a stray missile struck and killed four youth playing soccer on a beach, the liberal media acted like they were documenting Israeli war crimes. The image of Palestinians pointing to their bombed out homes as if they're model homes on The Price Is Right has become a cliché. I would once like to hear a reporter ask one of these victims if their support of Hamas was worth having their lives turned upside down?

It's amazing how quickly everyone has forgotten that this latest round of fighting started with the kidnapping and murder of three Israeli youth. World leaders and the liberal media seem to have the memory of goldfish. I turn on the TV and all I see are commentators wondering why Israel is bombing those poor Palestinians again.

The inhabitants of Gaza deserve very little pity from the global community. Hamas came to power by murdering the leadership of the Palestinian Authority. It already engaged in a futile conflict with Israel just a couple of years ago. Since Israel now has the Iron Dome shield to shoot down most of the rockets fired at them, this new conflict will prove to be equally pointless. If people in Gaza had any common sense, they would say to themselves, "Hey, we were better off under Israeli rule."

One way to determine how close we are to the Tribulation hour is to measure how easily it is for people to view Israel as the villain in any conflict it has with the Arabs. Despite the fact that Israel almost never fires first, and follows the rules of engagement that go far beyond any established code of conduct, she is repeatedly seen a criminal aggressor.

As the world slips deeper under the control of demonic forces, I expect Israel to become all the more of a pariah state. Of course the Bible predicts that this unnatural hatred will lead to disaster.

"Behold, I will make Jerusalem a cup of trembling unto all the people round about, when they shall be in the siege both against Judah and against Jerusalem. And in that day will I make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all people: all that burden themselves with it shall be cut in pieces, though all the people of the earth are gathered together against it" (Zechariah 12:2-3).
